Whether frying an egg, a tortilla or steak for one, toasting spices or stir-frying a portion of vegetables, Lodge’s mini 17cm Cast Iron Frying Pan comes pre-seasoned and performs superbly. Heat resistant to 260°C. Suitable for induction hobs.

About Lodge Cast Iron Skillets and Frying Pans

Founded in 1896 in the Appalachian Mountains of Tennessee, legendary cast iron brand Lodge don’t just make cookware – they make heirlooms that are passed down through the generations. All their cast iron skillets and frying pans are suitable for use on induction, ceramic, electric and gas hobs, as well as in the oven and on barbecues or campfires, with excellent heat distribution and an easy-release finish which improves with age. Pre-seasoned with vegetable oil at the foundry for a rust-resistant, non-stick finish, they can be used to sear, fry, sauté, grill, roast, bake, braise or boil, indoors or out. What’s more, if you are out in the wild, they can all be hand washed without any need for detergent because the iron is sterile at 100°C.

Lodge is the sole cast iron cookware manufacturer still operating in the United States, combining only the safest and purest sources of iron with state of the art moulding systems and an electrostatically sprayed, pre-seasoning coat of vegetable oil to help prevent rusting. In addition to the heavy duty cast iron cookware they also offer a lighter but equally tough carbon steel range made from high-quality 12-gauge carbon steel.

Caring for Cast Iron Cookware

With just a few simple steps, your cast iron cookware will last you a lifetime. When you’ve finished cooking, rinse the pan out with hot water, and, if you need to, use a mild abrasive to remove burnt on food. Dry the pan thoroughly to prevent rust and then lightly coat with cooking oil to build up the seasoning. For convenience, Lodge’s Cast Iron cookware comes pre-seasoned, and it will only get better after every use.

"Useful but Not Pre~seasoned"

star star star star star_border

I cook a lot using this type of cast iron and it is not, in any term of the definition pre~seasoned and ready to use which is why so many who've reviewed this pan have had trouble with it sticking. After I'd seasoned it properly myself and used it two or three times it has developed the perfect non stick coating you would expect from a quality cast iron pan. It is perfect for small servings, a single egg, one slice of French toast, four slices of Halloumi cheese, and toasting pine nuts or spices. Great for individual tarte tatin and puddings too, as it can go from stove top to oven no problem.

"Finally mastered this pan"

Bought this skillet for use on my induction cooker to use when frying one egg. When I first used it the egg stuck. Tried all different ways to cook in it using oil or lard getting the oil hot before placing egg in, cooking it quickly, cooking slowly and it always stuck. Eventually have mastered this by placing the egg in cold oil and then cooking on a medium heat. You have to be careful with the handle as it gets very hot. Began to think it was a waste of money but it is alright now but not my favourite pan.

"Do not like"

Bought this mainly to cook 1 egg. Firstly the handle is so hot you cannot touch it at all, secondly the egg sticks majority of the time, the only good thing going for this is that it will work on an induction hob

support_agent A note from the team

Thanks for taking the time to give us your feedback. I'm sorry that you'd had disappointing results with the pan, I'll be in touch shortly. As the pan is cast iron and has a moulded handle we would recommend using an oven glove or cloth when cooking with it.
