Damascus Japanese Chef's Kitchen Knife 20cm Blade

Product number: 17741

The medium-sized Chef’s Knives in our Damascus Japanese knife range, the 24cm Damascus Chef’s Knife is designed to perform well at all sorts of everyday prepping tasks – mincing, slicing, chopping and even disjointing cuts of meat. It’s perfectly weighted and super-sharp too, so there’s no chance of slipping as you tackle a batch of onions or tomatoes.

Our range of Damascus Japanese knives has not one, but two, chef’s knives so that you can pick the one that suits you and your cooking technique best. Both have the traditional wide blade, pointed tip and a gently curved shape, in the French or Japanese style, so that you can employ a continuous rocking action as you chop.

The Damascus Chef’s Knife is also available in 15cm and 24cm sizes.

About Lakeland Damascus Knives

Sharpened using the same techniques as those used to make Samurai swords, Damascus knives undergo a process of lamination where the super-hard carbon steel core is layered with 67 coatings of stainless steel for a distinctive blade that is strong yet flexible with a superior cutting edge.

This multi-layering technique is believed to have been discovered in Damascus around 300BC – hence the name – eventually making its way east to be perfected by Japanese sword-smiths where the blade’s finish was aptly named ‘kasumi-nagashi’ or ‘floating mist’.

Full tang with an ice-tempered blade, each beautifully balanced knife also has a comfortable riveted wooden handle to give you excellent precision and control.

"Fantastic Knife"

star star star star star

I bought this knife from the Chester shop about three months ago. It is a beautiful knife with great balance and it is very sharp and easy to sharpen. Just holding it lightly, its weight will allow it to cut through a tomato. This knife is as good as another I've got which cost over twice as much. I will be buying more from this range.

support_agent A note from the team

We're pleased to hear your loves this range. Our buying team have suggested the best way to sharpen our Damascus knives is using a whetstone at a 15 degree angle or use a sharpening steel. We wouldn’t suggest a generic knife sharpener for these knives

"Perfect knife"

I've had other knives that I thought were good. But ..... this is amazing. Tried it in store side by side with the global 20cm, globals handle was too narrow for me and I liked the look of this one. Balance is good. Handle good light shape and size is right for me Its sharp Its actually so sharp you'll have to be carefull, I shaved a curl off the face of my ring finger nail. Chops very soft tomatoes and goes straight though butternut squash. Anyway, seems expensive, but youre getting something special that you will enjoy looking at and using.

"A thing of beauty"

For years I have made do with cheap knives, I recently bought this knife as a treat for myself and all I can say is WOW! Very well weighted and super sharp no more onion tears, this knife can slice things like a tomato nice and thin. I am so impressed I am going to treat myself soon to the DAMASCUS JAPANESE VEGETABLE KITCHEN KNIFE. The DAMASCUS JAPANESE CHEF'S KITCHEN KNIFE comes highly recommend

"Best value Damascus knives"

I turn into a proper nerd when buying things I really want and I spent hours in the internet reviewing Japanese knives. I asked my friends who are pro chefs for advice and one brand came up most. I knew they were really expensive as were most others so I was dubious at the low cost of these as I'm a HUGE sceptic but I'm glad I went with Lakeland. I think they feel better and look just as good as the expensive range. I went to a pro knife shop just up the road in Guildford and had the chance to play with expensive ones to compare and I'm glad I did. These are cheaper but soooo good! Thank you
