PME Orange Concentrated Natural Food Colouring 25g

Product number: 16949

How do you get icing that striking orange for making the perfect pumpkin cake at Halloween or a carrot-coloured nose for your snowman cake at Christmas? Whatever the occasion, if it’s orange you’re looking for, this all-natural PME food colouring will help you recreate the tangiest shade of marmalade or recreate one of the brightest sunset hues.

Ideal for decorating autumnal bakes with fondant leaves, carrot cakes with mini carrot toppers, it’s also just the thing for creating celebration cakes featuring anything orange from foxes right through to tigers, goldfish, ginger cats, basket balls, marigolds, gerbera or your very own Nemo.

Give citrusy bakes a buttercream topping or filling to match their flavour, or take on a checkerboard challenge by using it to colour your cake mix in a recipe like our Orange and Vanilla Simnel Battenberg Cake – a delicious hybrid of those two classic cakes with extra orange, vanilla and ginger notes.

Simply add a little to icing, buttercream or sponge mixture before baking. And, as it’s highly concentrated, it’s easy to vary the intensity of your orange by adding just a few drops more or less without significantly diluting your mix.

With all-natural colouring and alcohol and gluten free.

About PME Food Colourings

Since securing contracts with the British Army in 1970 for supplying cake decorating supplies – yes soldiers eat cakes too! – PME (Precision Machining Engineers) have focussed their engineering expertise on producing high quality cake decoration equipment and these food colourings are no exception.

All-natural food colourings have a reputation for not being quite as bright as their synthetic counterparts but PME have worked their magic and these little bottles really will give you a range of truly vibrant colours, without resorting to E numbers for the colourants. Perhaps it’s time to try that Red Velvet and White Chocolate Layer Cake from our blog...

"not orange"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

Added to melted white chocolate but made it go, at best, salmon pink rather than orange. I couldn't believe how pink it was. Luckily I found an old Dr Oetkers orange colouring in the cupboard and tried again with that and sure enough that went recognisably orange. The PME one is pink. Not worth taking back to store for £1.99 but very disappointed, waste of money.

"Turns icing pink."

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

Very disappointed with this icing. I have previously used the pink colouring from the same range and had great success, true to the colour advertised. However, this 'orange' food colouring doesn't turn food orange at all, but pink instead. I used it on white buttercream icing and it didn't go orange in the slightest. Extremely frustrating, as was for a chocolate orange cake, which instead o being orange came out pink. Would not recommend.

"PME orange colouring"

Disappointed, colour was initially bright yellow then became a darker yellow when more was added, it made the icing taste awful once I added more and I ended up throwing out the batch of icing.

Thank you for placing your review. We're sorry you've been disappointed with the taste and the colour of this item. When adding the colour to the icing it will develop in to a deeper richer colour the more drops added.

"Kills meringue"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

"add vibrancy to cake pops, macaroons" Why then I have just had to dispose of a batch of meringue that this stuff deflated?

support_agent A note from the team

Thanks for placing your review. We're sorry for your disappointment with the colouring and the buyer has commented:we used the orange colouring in a macaroon recipe earlier this year and the macaroons were fine.We have checked with the Supplier and they havent had any other comments of this nature. With this in mind it could be various factors which affected your meringues, for example if he was using fresh egg white or powdered meringue mixture. We'll be in touch shortly to help.
