Star Kay White Food Flavour - 60ml Ginger

Product number: 16828

We all know that ginger is said to have great health benefits – for digestion, as a treatment for nausea and as an anti-bacterial among other things – but it’s also one of the world’s oldest flavourings. A few drops of this intense Pure Ginger Extract will save you the faff of grating a thumb-size piece of ginger root every time you cook Asian-inspired stir-fries and soups. A particularly great match for carrot and fish in savoury dishes and with lemon, rhubarb or plums in sweet ones, you could even use it to make a mug of lemon and ginger tea if you’re giving yourself a break from the caffeine.

Usage Guide

  • ½ Teaspoon: Subtle flavour
  • 1 Teaspoon: Definite aroma
  • 1½ Teaspoons: Strong flavour

Or follow the suggested quantity in the recipe you are using.

"Overpriced & Disappointing"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

I bought this specifically for a ginger cake recipe. I took on board one review which stated it was very strong and I also read the guidelines in the product information. I didn't want the ginger to over power the cake and I used a teaspoonful taking into account I used some real ginger in the batter. The results were extremely disappointing. I couldn't taste any ginger at all and the only taste is a pungent after taste similar to white pepper! Save your money and just by the usual supermarket brand for a fraction of the price and better results. If I could I would give 0 star

"Lovely"

I used this in a batch of biscuits and the flavour was lovely. It is very strong and needs to be used sparingly. I would definitely recommend it.

"Excellent useful product"

I disagree with all the negative comments. If you taste it from the bottle then it will taste of the alcohol in which the ginger is preserved but in cooking it is absolutely fine. The ginger creams that I made were wolfed down because they were delicious.

"Strong stuff, so don't overuse!"

Used this to make Swedish ginger biscuits and was really happy with the results. A little bit goes a long way, so don't get too generous! Same with the cinnamon- Too much can overpower really easily.

"Very disappointing"

I agree with other reviewers regarding the smell and taste; I tried this with new rhubarb and the effect was awful. Very chemical even in a lamb dish.
