Lightweight Cast Aluminium 26cm Oval Casserole Grey with Lid

I intended to only use this occasionally, but i find it so easy to lift and clean that i use it all the time! I thought it was cast iron at first and so 'over-compensated' when i lifted it up and the lid nearly flew off! As i've learned, cast aluminium is a lot lighter than cast iron, but the thick walls help it to distribute the heat from the hob or in the oven evenly round the whole pan. The non-stick is great and cleans really easily, and i love the fact that i'll still be able to use it for a very long time (unlike my cast iron one!) I highly recommend this casserole.

A friend in Canada gave me a recipe for a xmas cake which she makes in her mum's 55 year old aluminium pan, complete with lid. I bought this one to replicate the one she uses. Made my xmas cake in it yesterday, with the lid on - absolutely brilliant. LOVE this pan.

I bought this casserole dish to use with my Sage mini oven. Although it fitted the oven like a glove in length and depth the height was a problem due to the knob making the whole thing too deep. I am so pleased with this purchase that rather than return it I reversed the connection so that the retaining screw is now on the outside holding down a stainless steel washer which works just as well as the original knob. OK, visually it's not quite as good but I did not buy it as an ornament!! I now have what I have been searching for and that is a very handy sized casserole with a variety of uses.

I really like this casserole pan for how light it is, as unfortunately the shelves in my oven are a little bit temperamental when it comes to taking a big full cast iron pot full of stew and curry! My only issue with it is that it's just a little too small, if it was just a bit deeper (say able to hold about a litre more), it would be perfect. Sadly it's seems to be quite hard to find bigger cast aluminium casserole dishes.
