It can be used to keep food warm, but is actually a 'thermo-cooker' and is really popular in Australia where it is popular with campers. Rather than cooking a casserole for 2-3 hours in the oven, simmer for 12-15 minutes on the hob and place inside - in 6 hours it will be beautifully tender and still piping hot (the temperature is retained, so this is perfectly safe). Saves so much electricity/gas; every household should have one!
"no electricity needed" star star star star star Fantastic bit of kit- had one for ages. Just like slow cooker but once inner pan is up to a boil, slip it into outer case, and it cooks with no power. Stews and such are really easy and cheap to cook. Plus you don't have to leave power on when you're not in the house. you can also take hot food on picnics as it's very portable. Highly recommended!
