What are Poachets?

If you like your eggs poached in water but find your efforts are unpredictable, then give Poachets a go. A brilliantly simple invention from the UK, they’re made from tea bag-like paper and keep the egg white contained, so you don’t get all the stringy bits, but allow contact with water for proper poaching.

How to Use Poachets

Easy to use, simply place the poaching pouch open in a cup and crack in an egg; lift out, pulling the top together, hold for a second in a pan of water that’s at a rolling boil, then place it in... The pouch magically closes, and after 6 minutes, your egg will be cooked to perfection.

I’m amazed at the reviews on here. Incredulous even. These are the worst purchase I have ever made. No good at all. Egg everywhere.

Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear this and we're glad we were able to put things right for you. We've included our tips below: Take a Poachet and press down into the bottom of a glass or mug, with the top flaps open as shown, and crack an egg into it. (Ensure water is gently bubbling before cracking egg). 3. Immediately grip both flaps together, lift out of the glass and immerse into the gently bubbling water without delay. Add more Poachets into the water as required. ALWAYS immerse each filled Poachet before cracking the next egg. 4. POACH FOR 4½ - 5½ MINUTES in the gently bubbling water (some foam in the water is normal). Remove each Poachet with tongs or a slotted spoon. Allow to drain and cool slightly.

I’ve tried all the methods and gadget to be able to make at least a decent poached egg. I was sceptic when i used these the first time but i have to say they work wonderful!!!

Handy for those who struggle with the traditional method. Shame they aren’t reusable but you do get 20 and they are recyclable so not too bad.

These little bags are great! You have to time them right depending on egg size. I usually do four minutes for large eggs and three or three and a half minutes for the smaller eggs from our local farm. No mess, easy to use, then just rinse out the saucepan, job done !

"Convenient Little Packages"

I've developed a real love of poached eggs over the past year & the poachets make the cooking process so much easier. For the perfect soft yolk, I poach for just over 3 minutes then leave the excess water to drain away in the sink whilst I butter my toast! It was a bit of a faff at first - not putting the poachet into the pan immediately & having problems getting the egg out of the poachet especially when it is still hot (it cools down whilst it's draining so it's much easier to handle). Contrary to some other reviewers, my pan still needs washing though as the white escapes every time.
