"Disappointing - Come on Lakeland, you can do better than thi" star star star_border star_border star_border The face steamed up on first use. I'm not 100% sure it's accurate. After 3 batches of Jam, no matter how long I cook them I can't get this to go above 102 degrees. It was when the needle started going backwards that I started to get suspicious! support_agent A note from the team Thanks for taking the time to write your review. It certainly sounds like your thermometer is faulty. I'll be in touch shortly.
"Disappointing" star star_border star_border star_border star_border I bought this to replace my old one only because all the temperatures had worn away. Really disappointed in this one face steams up all the time and takes weeks to get rid of it. It never reaches the proper temperature I have wasted batches of marmalade, jam, toffee and tablet using it. Certainly wouldn't recommend it. support_agent A note from the team Thanks for your review. Our buyers have have done some extra testing and found that the depth at which the thermometer is inserted into the foodstuff is critical. It should be at a depth of 6.5cm or deeper for accurate readings. The glass window is unsealed to prevent it cracking in higher temperature conditions. To help stop the face from steaming up, you can hold the thermometer at an angle in the pan. We'll be in touch to help.
"Very Unhappy" star star_border star_border star_border star_border The very first time we used this, the face steamed up so much, that we are now left with water inside. I'm not impressed with the quality and thus wouldn't trust this to work accurately. support_agent A note from the team Thanks for taking the time to write your review. I'm sorry to hear of the problem you'd had. I'll be in touch shortly to help.
"This doesn't work in a shallow jam pan!" star star_border star_border star_border star_border I read the previous reviews but decided to buy it because its similar to the meat thermometer (which works a treat). Unfortunately when using it, the temperature made it to 90 deg but then dropped back to 85 deg during a rolling boil. (It should have been heading upwards to 104 deg) It appears the needle needs to be fully submerged in jam to get a reading, something that is not possible if using a shallow maslin pan. Unless you are going to submerge the needle fully, I cannot recommend this product. (Great service Lakeland - immediately refunded ) support_agent A note from the team Thanks for placing your review. We're sorry the thermometer wasn't suitable for your needs. We're pleased we've been able to help at customer services.
"Dissatisfied" star star_border star_border star_border star_border I wish I had read your previous reviewers before I bought this product as my experience is the same as theirs. It seems that you would need to be using a small saucepan or making a lot of jam to get the depth required. Not very practical - and should have been clearly indicated in the instructions support_agent A note from the team Thanks for placing your review. We're sorry the thermometer hasn't been as expected. We'll be in touch shortly to help further. When using the thermometer the depth required can give an incorrect reading and we have now advised this on the packaging.
