Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

Product number: 15096

Exceed expectations when you slice into a seemingly plain cake and reveal the delicious secret – a deep filling hidden within!

Cakes baked using these tins are sure to impress – with the raised bases in place, each cake is turned out with a baked-in well so fillings can be hidden from view until the cake is sliced, revealing the ‘surprise’. Chocolate cake concealing cream and black cherries, lemon sponge hiding buttercream and mandarin, coffee gateau disguising vanilla and walnut – the possibilities are endless!

A single layer makes a perfect sponge flan base, or for a more traditional Victoria sponge, leave out the raised bases. Made from anodised aluminium for even heat distribution. Grease, flour and line before use.

"Oh dear !"

I have used these tins for the first time today, what a disaster ! I followed the instructions per the leaflet that came with the tins to the letter & lined the raised based. The mixture came over the top of the tins whilst cooking & when I turned them out ,some of the mixture had leaked into the base of the tin. The result was an uneven & broken up cake impossible to use as intended. I am an experienced baker & will persevere but to date am very disappointed with the results. Having seen other positive reviews I am at a loss to see where I went wrong.

"Gives a great finish to special cakes"

The finished product that this creates looks very good. No filling oozing out. I'm not a big fan of greasing and lining - I'm a fan of cake release and silicone pans. But I made sure I prepped these pans well and had no problem getting the cakes out. My tip is to feather the edge of the lining paper that you use for the sides so that it suggly fits the raised bottom. Take the extra 5 mins to prep thoroughly because the end results are worth it.

"Brilliant idea"

What a fabulous product! I made a Victoria sandwich using just one tin with a raised base and the other was a My Kitchen sandwich tin, as I thought that 2 cm of filling would be rather too much. I greased it well, lined it with greaseproof paper and greased that well. The sponge didn't stick at all and my friends (and I) were very impressed with the results. One cm of filling was just perfect. Please would you make non-stick raised bases in different sizes which can be purchased separately for the My Kitchen range of sandwich tins? Would be 5 star if non-stick and in different sizes.

"Give it a chance!"

First I made the recipe on the tins... most the edges broke but however I thought maybe its the recipe or I didn't prepare tins enough. Few weeks later I made my usual chocolate cake and prepared tins really well. Came out a lot better but one half was lopsided, maybe I didn't even it out enough first! But they do work! Slop on the cake release!

This product is excellent! There are 3 elements to the set, outer ring, flat base, raised base X 2. For the 'surprise' cake you just use the ring and the raised base (don't worry, it won't leak)! Line the flat area of the raised base (6.5 inches) with a circle of greaseproof paper, sticking it to the tin with a bit of butter. Then really grease and flour everything that is going to come into contact with the mixture (inc the greaseproof paper). After 10 mins resting turn the cake upside down onto a cooling rack, remove the ring and gently run around the edge of the raised base and lift off.
