"Ice Cream Maker FAIL"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

Years ago we had a Magimix Ice Cream Maker that we used repeatedly until the bowl deformed in the freezer. Many years later we bought this Lakeland version thinking it was a similar style of ice cream maker at a good price. It is[was] NOT. Second time of using the Lakeland the motor FAILED! I have to admit it was probably our fault for attempting to freeze Greek style yoghurt. The wimpy motor simply was not man enough to churn yoghurt as it froze. So I ended up having to take the lid off and churn the paddle by hand! Only goes to prove you get what you pay for. CHEAP = Budget = FRAGILE!

"Some hints on how to get the best from the ice cream maker"

star star star star star_border

I've read many of the other reviews and shared both the failures and successes of this machine described. Here's what I've learned from what I've read and tried: 1) Ensure the bowl has been in the freezer for at least 18 hours before use 2) Whisk your mixture so far as to thicken it but can still pour it easily. 3) Chill the mixture for at least an hour 4) DON'T fill the frozen bowl more than 50% full In my experience this approach will produce you ice cream of Mr Whippy consistency that gets to normal consistency after a couple of hours in the freezer. Hope that helps!!

"Too Much Peppermint!!"

star star star star star

Very pleased with this purchase and have tried a few of the recipes, all successful until the last one! Mint Choc Chip tells you to add 2 TABLESPOONS creme de menthe or peppermint extract. I used the latter and even as I was measuring it I thought it was rather a lot. The resulting ice cream was horrible, like eating toothpaste, the mint was so strong and left a horrible aftertaste. I don't know if it is a printing error and it should have been 2 teaspoons. Don't think I'd even risk that, it will be choc chip ice cream next time!

"Did not work for me"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

I wanted this to try and make some ice cream from Almond Milk. I chilled the milk well before starting and as other reviews stated ice cream was very runny I put timer on for 30 minutes. After 25 minutes the lid popped off - the mixture was just as runny as it went in with a little bit frozen on the sides. So this will be going back for a refund

"Easy to use and excellent results"

star star star star star

I've never made ice cream before, and was tempted by this product in the Lakeland sale. It arrived quickly, was very easy to use (I did read the instruction manual first!), and the resulting vanilla ice cream was delicious, easily on a par with luxury bought brands. I didn't have any of the problems experienced by other reviewers, and put the churned ice cream in the freezer for about 45 min before eating - the texture and degree of hardness were just right for me. I'll be experimenting with other flavours soon, and look forward to not having to buy ice cream again.
