Kuhn Rikon Frosting Deco Pen

Product number: 14336

Battery-powered decorating! Choose between two speeds for a controlled flow of icing. There’s nothing to push down – it’s just like a pen, so you only need one hand to ice.

Quick, clean and easy to fill, the icing is simply sucked up into the chamber. It comes with three chambers, so you can swap over when using different icings, a mixing attachment to combine different colours for a marbling effect, and six nozzles which allow you to create shell borders, rosettes, stars, leaves or a basketweave pattern, there’s even one for filling the centre of cupcakes! A clever bit of kit in any baker’s armoury.

"Great Fun for Cup Cakes"

star star star star star

I bought this 2 weeks ago and have had great fun decorating and filling cup cakes. I made a batch for a cake sale in the office this week and they were a massive hit. This tool transformed ordinary buns into stunning cup cakes with a gooey jam filling that were the talk of the office!Thank you for helping me create a good impression!

"Great fun"

I have been making cakes for years and am not very good at using an icing bag . This is brilliant, my cakes look really professional I'm really pleased with it. The only fault I have with it is that I have never bought any other icing before as it's expensive, but as you recommended it because the filler apparently fits the tub I bought 3 tubs of it planning to refill them with my own icing after use. Disappointingly they must have altered the tubs as they don't fit properly, at least an inch of icing is inaccessible and far to messy to get out any other way. Other than this I recommend to anyone who finds conventional icing bags difficult.

"This is better than you think!"

OK, my success with the traditional icing bag, well it would be better to categorise it as a disaster. Every single time. So after a long break from icing anything I saw this and made sure it went straight in at the top of my Christmas list. And it is great! 1) Filling the cartridge. No I am unable to get any of the ready made icing that is mentioned in the the instruction manual. Not a problem as I prefer to make my own. Ah. But getting it in to the cartridge. Cue some kitchen chaos as a suitable cylindrical container was found that fitted the diameter of the filling plate (8cm). Eventually an instant cappuccino powder tin was identified as being perfect. So I scooped my icing into this and followed the instructions as laid out in the booklet for filling. And it worked first time, with no air pockets.2) The Icing. As it turned out my icing that consisted of icing sugar, one egg white and a drop of water was a little on the thick side, but otherwise ideal!3) Fitting the tip. A fantastic tight fit, with a good strong click to indicate when it is in position correctly. Not a drop of icing leaked out of the cartridge.4) The Cartridge attaches very firmly to the pen/motor part and felt very comfortable in my hand.5) The writing. Wanting to start simple I had a dozen cup cakes that I wanted to decorate with my daughters initials. The first one ended up with slightly too much icing at the end of the letter as I forgot to engage reverse. Once I had the timing down, I was engaging reverse as I was on the last stroke of the letter and it was finishing off perfectly. 6) After decorating half of the cakes like this, all on slow, I started to experiment with some simple swirls and loops, still using the "writing" tip. Again using the slow setting. On the top of a cup cake, yes, at times the slow setting did seem a little fast but I was soon able to compensate for this very easily. 7) Icing usage. On the letter cakes I was trying some double line effects which worked quite nicely. My pattern ones were heavily patterned and my youngest daughter went nuts with the last two and I still had a good third of icing in the cartridge.8) Cleaning. Very easy. Left to soak in a tub of the hottest water I could get to come out of my kitchen tap for 15 minutes and it all came very clean very quickly with no hassle.9) Large cakes will be a blast with this. Being able to set up all my icing and then fill up to three tubes ready with the chosen tips before I start is going to make it so easy! I am also looking forward to doing some jam injections as well! Now, as far as I can see the other, more negative, reviews seem to be from people who have a goodly amount of experience with the more traditional icing methods. To them, and you if you are such a person, why bother changing the habits of a lifetime? If it works for you then I would suggest most respectfully that this product may not be for you. If you are the type of person who shudders with fear at the thought of icing anything, then, maybe, this could just what you are looking for!

"Absolutely Fantastic!"

This is an absolutely fantastic invention. I have trouble keep a steady hand when using a traditional icing bag which results in unsightly resutls! Thankfully, that is not a problem with this product. It is so easy to use and comes with a good variety of tips. I also appreciate the fact that it can be used with ready made icing. This is a real time saver when I don't have time to make icing from scratch. However, there are two things that I think could be improved. Firstly, it would be nice if the product came with a tub for icing, as it requires you to go out and buy one before it can be used. Secondly, it's a bit of a hassle to clean. The icing really seems to get everywhere, although this doesn't appear to affect the product's ability to do the job. All in all, I would recommend this to everyone and anyone.

"Kuhn Rikon Frosting Deco Pen is Brilliant!"

I was given this as a gift for my birthday recently and then unfortunately read the reviews. I was left feeling disappointed, but after trying it for myself I was absolutely thrilled with it. It was very easy to use, clean, efficient and my family were very impressed with the results. Top class.
