Metaltex Mandoline

This was my first purchase from Lakeland. After being so impressed with the Taunton store it was a real disappointment to find that this product was so poor. It just does not do what it says on the box. Price and appearance is great but performance is hopeless. I wanted to shred cabbage and carrot but the results were far superior and easier using a knife and grater. I agree that Lakeland should remove this product from their range. You can’t win them all. My rating is nil stars

I was hoping that this gadget would make the task of shredding/grating easier, but feel it's more difficult than using a standard grater. When grating veg lots of it falls over the far edge and big lumps of what's being grated gets stuck underneath the plunger and you end up having to cut the veg with a knife to finish it off. Everything ends up in a mess and it's still hard work, and I repeat, more awkward than a normal grater! Sorry mandoline, I'm not impressed!

I had high hopes of this little gadget, it looked versatile and I thought good value for the money. It's a great idea to store the blades within the gadget itself but you must remember to remove them before starting work otherwise you'll end up having to wash them all.Once I started using it, I soon became frustrated with its performance. The slicer worked beautifully for potato, courgette and tomatoes but when I switched to the grater to do some carrots, it was hopeless and as for red cabbage, well forget it! It was hard work - food gets stuck in the gap between the finger protector and the blade and it's difficult (and dangerous) to remove. When grating, the food splatters all over the work surface. Overall, I would rate this gadget 3/10. It simply doesn't do the job.

I bought a Metaltex Mandoline today, tried to use it tonight and it is USELESS! The slicer is too fine and not adjustable. The grater is useless, far less successful than my trusted cheapy grater. This is a gadget that will only be used once then chucked under the sink. I don't even want to give it a one star rating it is 0/10. Can't believe I've wasted £15 on it! I felt so strongly I came onto the Lakeland website and was very disappointed to see all of these reviews all agreeing with me. I think this gadget should be withdrawn from sale; it is not up to Lakeland's usually exemplary standard. Shame.

Hi very disappointed. Used for the first time this evening to grate carrots, left a red stain on the grater that won't wash off, tried everything but a scourer don't want to scratch the plastic. Should have bought the individual metal graters at least I could have scrubbed then with out doing too much harm. Purchased a number of items for my new kitchen over the last few months am very happy with the other items. What went wrong with this one.
