Microplane® Slider

I always use this protective gadget when using my microplane grater. Even for relatively soft food like cheese, I use the slider - it presses the cheese against the grater and that means I can grate very quickly, without fear of rubbing my fingers on the (very sharp) grater, and all the cheese gets grated right down to the last sliver. It's the work of a momnet to cut the cheese (or whatever) into a block that fits inside the slider. Happy grating!

Using this slider makes grating smaller items such as nutmeg and garlic so easy and saves your fingers too. If you have arthritic hands it makes the whole thing feel a bit more comfortable and safer too. Would highly reccomend.

I am not keen on this item. There is a gap between the slider and the grater and food gets wedged in there while i'm grating. I've tried it with soft and hard items (cheese and carrots) and it's simpler just to grate without it and risk my fingers. It needs to fit much closer to the grater.

This slider is an excellent idea and fitted the standard style of Microplane graters stocked by Lakeland a couple of years ago perfectly. I have since replaced my graters with the "Gourmet" range currently stocked by Lakeland and recommended for use with the slider, but the slider simply doesn't fit. It is wider than the grater (which is clearly apparent in the picture) and therefore is insecure in its execution. Food slides underneath it as reported by other reviewers, and it keeps falling away. It is possible to use it with the Gourmet graters, but can be fiddly and frustrating as a result of the poor fit.

This didn't fit my Microplane and sadly it had to be returned. Back to grated knuckles! A Universal model that fits all types would be a good idea.
