Here at Lakeland we firmly believe 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', but sometimes a little fine-tuning does no harm. These new Gourmet Graters retain the clog-resistant, stainless steel blade of previous Microplane graters, but with the addition of an angled, non-slip bar at the 'table end'. A small change possibly, though combined with the improved soft-grip handle, the net result is better leverage and a firmer hold on proceedings. As we said, a little fine-tuning...

I thought I'd need to buy a coarse one too, but this one does everything I need it to. It is too fine for carrots, but it's great for cheese, nutmeg and zesting citrus. It's really efficient, and easy to clean and store.

I’ve been using this grater for a few months. The handle fills the hand very well and makes a firm grip less fatiguing when grating hard, Italian type cheeses. The ‘micro blades’ make easy work of grating hard cheeses, and are extremely efficient, even when the cheese has become hardened with age. The plastic coated bar at the end of the grater is useful, for instance, if a strong support on a kitchen work surface, or inside a container is needed, or preferred. The grater is also superb for fine grating garlic, root ginger, and so forth. Mind those finger tips!
The microplane part is excellent. Especially using the slider. Perfect for garlic and much easier to clean than fiddly garlic presses. However the handle of mine broke a while a go when it was made of plastic and I had to throw that one away-so I'm VERY glad to see a stronger handle on it now.
