Coarse Microplane Gourmet Grater
Product number: 12330
Here at Lakeland we firmly believe 'if it ain't broke, don't fix it', but sometimes a little fine-tuning does no harm. These new Gourmet Graters retain the clog-resistant, stainless steel blade of previous Microplane graters, but with the addition of an angled, non-slip bar at the 'table end'. A small change possibly, though combined with the improved soft-grip handle, the net result is better leverage and a firmer hold on proceedings. As we said, a little fine-tuning...
Coarse for grating carrots, hard cheese, garlic, chocolate or coconut

This review is for an older version of this product
I bought this to replace the previous generation Microplane grater sold by Lakeland. This had a plastic frame - which had cracked and warped (and was held together with tape!) so I was attracted to this metal-framed variety. So far pleased with the replacement but is there any need for it to be so large? The handle is really long and then there's a gap between it and the grater that serves no purpose! Grating performance is excellent - we use this regularly, for hard cheese and ginger mainly. (Just don't think 'coarse' when ordering - it's really quite fine.)
I already have the ribbon microplane grater and find it very good and bought this one for grating cheddar cheese and carrots, I find that it is too fine for these foods and only use it for zesting and parmesan. There is an extra course one and a large shaver one in the series which would probably be better for cheddar cheese and shredding cabbage etc, hope Lakeland might stock these ones in the future.
Thanks for placing your review. I've passed your suggestions on to our buying team. However some of our customer reviews have found that the ribbon grater is suitable for carrots, cabbage and cheese.
