Zyliss® Can Opener

Product number: 12040

The new can opener from Zyliss is a smooth operator. It performs superbly, as you would expect from this renowned Swiss brand, and the edges of lids and cans are left smooth – a real boon for kitchen safety. Soft-grip handles give you extra leverage, and the lid is lifted clean away.

Our Customer Ambassador, Wendy Miranda comments "The Zyliss Can Opener is so smooth and easy to turn that you won't believe it is actually working and at first glance you will see no evidence of cutting at all. The Zyliss removes sharp edge by rolling the top of the can over as it goes and once complete the lid just lifts off using the 'pincers' located underneath the opener. Gently squeeze the side of your tin and the lid will pop out. Take a look at the demo we have made to show you just how effective this can opener really is."

"Not worth buying"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

I have had can openers of a similar design previously and had no problems with them. However, the Zyliss one is so difficult to use and more often than not causes problems where only part of the can will open making it very difficult to remove the contents. The device for removing the lid is awkward and difficult to use and doesn't grip the lid adequately to remove it. I paid a high price for the can opener expecting a quality product but find it is far from that! Not worth the money.

"Doesn't work on all cans"

This can opener is very selective. It will only open certain types of can. Does not work on cans of salmon as they are a different shape. Have had to throw away mangled cans after attempting to open with this can opener and failing. Shouldn't need to have several different can openers depending on what you want to open!

"expensive disappointment"

I was hoping this can opener would help my 90 yr old left handed auntie but she found it quite impossible to fit the edge of the tin between the two small circular steering pieces, she gave it back to me in disgust! there is no rating option for no stars

"Hit & miss"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

I can understand why some reviewers gave 5 stars as the product works very well on some cans and leaves smooth edges. However, it would not open a tin of supermarket brand tomatoes. I checked the instructions and saw you may have to lift the lid off with a separate part of the opener. However, I needed to prise the lid off and some tomatoes splattered over the table and over me! I now fully understand why some reviewers gave less favourable feedback. All reviews are fair and the product should state 'does not open all cans'.

We're sorry to hear you've been disappointed with this product. We've found that the Zyliss works on many different types of can but on occasion some cans may need an extra turn of the can opener - usually the label is so close to the top of the can this can prevent a smooth cut. "Fantasic tin-opener"

star star star star star

This is the best tinopener I have ever used. I feel totally confident allowing my children to use it, as it leaves the edges so smooth. It took me quite a while to work out that it WAS opening every tin - to start with I thought it was not working. After turning the handle and going round the whole circle of tin edge, you have to give the top of the tin quite a tug and a wiggle to remove it. This feels odd - sharp edges mean one usually avoids contact with the edges of tins - but with this its totally safe.
