Kitchencraft Classic Butterfly Can Opener

Product number: 10716

The classic – some may even say old-fashioned – Butterfly Can Opener is hard to beat for simplicity, and it’s undeniably one of the most straightforward, efficient ways to open your tins of food. There’s a reason they’ve been a staple in our utensil drawers for so long – they just work!

Made from shiny stainless steel, with a no-nonsense, hardened tempered steel blade to pierce the lids of tinned food, it requires a traditional two-handed approach; just clamp it onto your chosen tin, hold the long handles together and wind the butterfly wing lever to cut your way around the lid. The bottom of the wider handle also has an opener for crown cap bottles.

About Kitchen Craft

Founded in 1787 by Thomas Plant, the company began as brush makers. They moved to Birmingham in 1850 to take advantage of the new technology of the Industrial Revolution and became manufacturers of ironmongery, expanding into kitchen essentials and household items until, by 1985, they were specialising purely in kitchenware. In 1996 the company name was changed to Kitchen Craft to help customers understand the brand and its position as a worldwide market leader in kitchenware and tableware. They’ve developed many famous core brands, each with their own personalities, offering an unparalleled choice of cooking, baking and food preparation tools as well as serving items and gifts that are instantly recognisable for their quality, and yet manage to be affordable. The company is still proud to be based in Birmingham, although Thomas Plant might not recognise their modern, 21st century premises.

"Rubbish"

star star_border star_border star_border star_border

After the second electric model gave up the ghost we decided to go back to basics so my husband bought this but unfortunately this is too basic. It cuts unevenly leaving several places attached that resist any further attempts to cut through. Have tried a selection of different cans with the same results so definitely the opener. Will be replacing with something different and putting this in the bin.

We're sorry you couldn’t get this to work well for you. If you'd like to try something a bit less manual / hands-on then we recommend Culinare or Oxo instead.

"Best ever back up can opener"

I have other can openers, but all eventually wear out, usually when you least have time to waste. So I keep one of these and it is reliable. It might not be chic or slick but it always does the trick.

"kitchencraft classic Butterfly can opener."

good basic buy, does the job it is intended for, and more efficiently than some of the more expensive ones we have been unwise to buy

"Hmmmm"

star star star_border star_border star_border

Not sure quite yet what to make of this. Initially it was really hard to get it to open a tin properly but seems to have loosened up a bit recently so works better. I usually buy these for about 50p from another retailer and and they work brilliantly much better than all the new super duper tin openers and they last a lot longer. I got this one because shops are shut and I was ordering a couple of other things for Xmas.

Thank you for your review. We usually find the can openers get easier to turn with time, we hope this is the case if not please do let us know.

"Simple but effective"

We all need a good can opener and I have a few! Yes, you need a good grip but the straightforward way to open a tin guarantees it works every time. Sometimes just shows that the traditional tine openers can be among the best
