30July2010 - steamer update. I still think this is an excellent product, however I am now about to return the 5th one for a replacement, as it has cracked again, despite the customer service lady telling me that they had changed the plastic it is made out of. Thank heavens for the Lakeland Guarantee. I bought this steamer as a replacement for the previous green plastic version which had an unfortunate accident with my halogen hob! I’ve had to do a bit of juggling in the drawer as this one is a good bit larger than its predecessor and readjust cooking times for rice as it seems to take a bit longer to cook in this one, and it perhaps doesn't drain quite as well, but overall, I’m really impressed with it. I use it for rice, steaming all sorts of vegetables and cooking potatoes as it’s loads quicker. I steamed 4 packets of sugar snap peas in it on Saturday night for a dinner party and they cooked beautifully. Top tip: if you’re making mashed potatoes, peel your spuds, pop them in this, pour in about an inch of boiling water and cook on full power for about 12 minutes and potatoes are perfect for mashing. I’ve also used it to parboil chips (4 mins full power) before baking them in the oven. Loads quicker than a pan on the hob I’ve found.

We bought one of these a year ago to replace a steamer that we had had for about 10 years. The results are fantastic, and would recommend anytime over trying to boil rice in a saucepan. However, within a short time it had cracked and we bought another one in the Lakeland shop. Our second one has now developed another crack... :-( Very disappointng. I'll be looking for another microwave steamer, but unfortunately not the Lakeland one.
Thanks for placing your review. Sorry that the steamer has cracked. I'll be in touch shortly to help.

I've been using this several times a week since I got it. It really takes the hassle factor out of cooking rice. You can rinse and drain the rice in the steamer instead of using a sieve. Also great for vegetables - though you need to play around with the recommended cooking times a bit if, like me, you like your veggies al dente. I've had no issues with cracking so far and neither has my mum (who recommended this).

I have been looking for something to tidy my make up for some time. Beats having bags around and looks cool too.
