I bought a pack of 12 lids to go with the jars to make chutney at christmas. I had the same problem with every single lid - trying to tighten results in the lid just spinning right round and coming off in your hand. You can get it to stay on but it's certainly not sealed and I had a couple of leakage issues when transporting christmas presents which was not fun. I've just ordered a gingham batch to see if they are any better - hopefully they are!!

We have had no problems with these lids to date and have used them for years. However we do not reuse them unless we use wax and cellophane in addition. We wash them in hot water and put on the preheated jars once filled [with the excellent jam funnel]. Tighten. Then retighten once all jars are filled. We keep our preserves in a cool cellar and this combination works well for us. [I wonder, as the lids are coated metal, if sterilising them in boiling water could cause them to expand and thus not fit well?]

Just bought 12 white lids to use with my 1lb jam jars. I like the plain white colour. They fit well and are just the job.
