Here at Lakeland we firmly believe ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’, but sometimes a little fine-tuning does no harm. These new Gourmet Graters retain the clog-resistant, stainless steel blade of previous Microplane graters, but with the addition of an angled, non-slip bar at the ‘table end’. A small change possibly, though combined with the improved soft-grip handle, the net result is better leverage and a firmer hold on proceedings. As we said, a little fine-tuning...

Amazing.. worth every penny!

I have two of these graters and they are amazing. I cannot understand why the previous reviewers don't feel the same.
I have the coarse and the fine grater and use them for all sorts of things - chocolate, parmesan, onion, ginger, cheddar, lemon zest, cucumber, carrot, nutmeg... You name it I have tried it and the microplane has excelled.
I have had mine for a few years with no problems and I wholeheartedly recommend them.

not what you would expect for the price

I have had the plastic and metal ones of these graters and they are brilliant at grating.
The first 2 plastic ones lasted about one year before they completely snapped in two and were thrown away.
They were replaced with the new medium ribbon grater and initially worked well. However, the handles still have design flaws:
- They fill up with water when you wash them. When you grate your food the trapped water drips down the handle onto the food... yuk!
-The chrome effect on the handle is cheap plastic and peels off.
- The handle has now come off completely and I am going to have to glue it back on.
The feel of the handle is good and the metal frame to the grater is an excellent improvement, but a better handle would mean I could justify the price.

This is an excellent grater but the plastic down the sides has spit rendering it useless, I do not use a dishwasher for this grater. I thought this would be a good investment but it certainly isn't good value for money.
