3 stars out of 5 Lakeland jelly strainer kit

by Kate

You really don't need the full kit. According to other reviews it's pretty flimsy and difficult to assemble. It's also very expensive for a few bits of metal. I bought just the bag, for £3.99, punched three holes in it and hung it with string from a kitchen wall cupboard handle - with a large bowl underneath. Works perfectly.

4 stars out of 5 excellent results

by Carol

Having read all of the reviews I was in two minds as to whether I should buy the strainer set but I am so pleased I did. My redcurrant jelly is the best I have made yet! Whilst a bit fiddly, the stand did not take too long to put together. Not wanting to take any chances I used pegs to hold the jelly bag in place, as suggested by another customer. I also stood the strainer set on some of the Lakeland anti slip matting just to be extra sure. I am really pleased with this product.

4 stars out of 5 Jelly Strainer Set

by Mrs G C Maynard

I would just like to say something in favour of the Jelly Strainer Set. I have had mine for years, I bought it when Lakeland was still Lakeland Plastics! I have used it frequently and although putting it together takes a bit of practise I have not had any of the problems others have reported in their review. I think I am on my fourth jelly bag, the original bag had loops not elastic and could be attached to an upturned stool - hooking the loops over the legs but I get on fine with the elasticated variety. When attaching the small ring I have the hooks/supports holding it from the inside out - I have never had it collapse. I attach the large ring first with the hooks at the top facing outwards, I then slip the small ring into the hooks, I have just put mine together in approx one minute and it is perfectly stable this way. I also tested the bag and it took some pulling for it to come off - having the hooks facing outwards gives more grip to the bag and It has never come off with the standard amount of fruit for straining i.e. 4lb plus liquid. I do often raise the bowl that the liquid is straining into otherwise it can splash about a bit. I do hope this helps all you who are keen to make lovely clear jellies.
