Bread bins: because a fresher slice is awfully nice!

One of the top items on our grocery shopping lists has to be bread. The humble loaf, whether home-baked or shop-bought is part of so many meals - a sandwich for lunch, slice of buttered toast for breakfast - it's hard to imagine how we'd do without it, and a bread bin is the best place to store it. Fresh is best, but plastic bags that sliced supermarket loaves come in aren't the most attractive thing to have on the worktop, and that's why bread bins are found in so many kitchens. In many guises, from familiar stainless steel roll top bins or ceramic crocks with breadboard lids, to more contemporary models that open with a simple touch and close smoothly with a whisper-quiet mechanism, they're all designed for one thing - keeping loaves, bread rolls, bagels, wraps and cakes as fresh and soft as the day they were baked. As well as being functional, these kitchen accessories need to look good too, and whether yours has a country kitchen theme, or a sleek, modern style, there'll be a bread bin to suit. If you can't spare the worktop space for a bread bin, choose a fabric bread bag big enough to store your family loaf, or even a breathable, perforated plastic bag - just like those from supermarket bakeries - and keep your daily loaf crispy and bakery fresh for longer.
