5 stars out of 5 Stirr

by James

I have just made up my first lot of fudge using Stirr and it worked brilliantly. It gives you another hand to use the sugar thermometer, and it still stirs even when the mixture is very thick. This may well turn out as my first lot of fudge without the usual lumps and brown bits.

2 stars out of 5 Not great

by Mrs O'Donnell

I use this to make cheese sauce and I find that 90% of the time I get a great big lump of flour in the bottom of the pan. I'm trying to figure out what I do differently the other 10% when it worked perfectly! Shame.

1 stars out of 5 'Stirr' - FORGET IT!

by Bernice

What a dreadful disappointment - bought it primarily for assisting with making sauces - on every occasion it left big lumps on the bottom of the pot and in the sauce - a total waste of money!!

5 stars out of 5 Brilliant product

by Nic

I have been searching for something like this for ages. At half-price, I thought I'd give it a go and see what it was like. I am so, pleased with it. It has to be one of the best gadgets I have. As I write, it is stirring away in some soup for lunch! I find it very useful in making things such as gravy or sauces, that need stirring so as not to go lumpy. Best of all, it saves me having to constantly get up and stir dishes that need cooking slowly for a long time, e.g. bolognaise sauce, to stop them sticking to the bottom of the pan.

5 stars out of 5 Fantastic Stirr

by Caroline

Best custard maker ever, always lump free. You do need a pan only just bigger than it, or it doesn't reach edges & can splash, but it means I can serve food while gravy is making itself. Great for cheese/white sauce, leave it working & the sauce doesn't get a skin while serving all the food, or layering up lasagne. I am trying to decide if it is too lazy to get another one, so it can stir bolognese sauce in one pan and white sauce in another. I think the half price just decided me. very highly recommended.

4 stars out of 5 Hands free!

by Rachel

As long as you use a saucepan that isn't much bigger than the Stirr, this works really well. It's so much easier to finish off the roast without having to stir the gravy by hand. Love it!

1 stars out of 5 It must be me then

by Hilary

I was so excited when I saw this product. I bought 2, 1 for myself and 1 for a friend. We have both been very disappointed and soon gave up. I must have been doing something wrong but I found that the Stirr splattered the sauce all around the kitchen!!! I have tried it with home made and packet sauces - always the same result - sauce everywhere.

5 stars out of 5 Indispensible!

by Linda O'Connor

This is a fantastic product. I bought one at Christmas, and it has made my life so much easier. I am ordering another one for our holiday home, and two for friends. Buy it while you can.

5 stars out of 5 A truly wonderful invention

by Mrs Jackie Sealey

I just love this little gadget that actually does what it says it will do - my first experiment with home made gravy - much to my surprize - was a complete success, no lunps, no burnt saucepan - and I didn't touch it with a spoon once, although I was itching to! I've found that it works best with a smaller saucepan as it tends to stay in one place in a large pan and doesn't look after the rest of it so well.

5 stars out of 5 hands free

by Anne

Every time I made cheese sauce I wished I had purchased the stirrer so I indulged and am so pleased with it. I made cheese sauce whilst getting on with the rest of the dinner. No more juggling jobs or having to stand and stir the sauces. This will be a well used addition to my kitchen. Even my husband praised it and that is a first!! Now I have to show him how to use it.

1 stars out of 5 What a waste...

by Ashley Mantle

I saw this on offer in store and thought great, it's worth giving it a try for a tenner... I wish I didn't. I tried it first on a bechamel sauce for a lasagne. It stirred it slowly but no where near enough to prevent it sticking on the bottom and burning. I had to bin the sauce and start again by hand. Next I tried it on a thin custard and it ruined that too. I could only see it working for reduction type sauces with no thickening agent, but then you don't even really need to stir those as you just leave them to bubble and reduce For me its a total waste of money! Also, just a niggling thing but the one on the picture on this website seems to be able to levitate as it appears to be standing maybe an inch deep in a much deeper pan. Is this a fault with mine?

3 stars out of 5 Hmm...

by Jayne

This product is OK, but not exactly the best thing I've bought from Lakeland. Like the previous reviews say there is a problem if you only use it with small amounts; but I find it useful nonetheless.

1 stars out of 5 A disappointment

by Alan Hart

Usually Lakeland gets it right but this product is a failure for me. It obviously works for some people but I found that for small amounts of sauces (which is what I really wanted it for) it splashes out more than it stirs and for bigger quantities (I tried it in a litre of soup) it leaves a blob in the middle not stirred.

5 stars out of 5 Absolutely Marvellous

by Mrs Hayward

I was a bit sceptical when I ordered the "Stirr" in case it was just another gadget that didn't work, but I am absolutely delighted. Smooth cheese sauce, perfect caramel sauce ... and all the while I am doing other things while it just 'walks' around the saucean stirring!

5 stars out of 5 Love it!

by Gwen

I bought this on a recent visit to the UK from Australia and have used it several times. The first time was to make ganache and it was so brilliant being able to leave the chocolate and cream to slowly mix while I got on with other things. It took a bit of experimenting to find the correct pan but once I did, I've used it for soup and sauces and it's one of the best kitchen gadgets I've ever bought.

5 stars out of 5 A whim that paid off.

by Alison

I bought Stirr on a whim as it looked good in the catalogue and in the shop. First use was custard, all ingredients straight into the saucepan, a quick stir with a spoon as I didn't trust it and away it went. Looked brilliant on the stove stirring away, very magical and reminded me of a scene from a wizard movie. Atfer a bit of time I made custard for the first time without lumps. Thumbs up from all my family. More requests for pie and custard. I'm waiting to see how long the batteries will last. I will look into using rechargable for the future? A brilliant time saving device. Would recommend to a busy cook who needs 2 pairs of hands.

5 stars out of 5 Wow!

by Alison Wilkinson

I have owned the Stirr for a couple of months now and love it! It's like having an extra pair of hands in the kitchen. It takes the effort out of standing over the hob making sure your sauce doesn't stick and burn. Fab product!

5 stars out of 5 Stirr - Love It

by lisa

I am a great fan of Lakeland and this is another top tool to add to their list. I have used it twice recently to make cheese sauce once for lasagne - it was liberating to allow the cheese to 'cook itself' whilst I got on with other things. I don't know how I have managed without it

1 stars out of 5 A waste of cupboard space!

by Patricia

I wish I had read the reviews before buying. I have arthritis in my hands and a Stirr seemed to be the answer to my stirring problems My grandson asked for blancmange when he stayed and I thought this would test the Stirr and give us blancmange without black bits. I always sweeten blancmange after it has thickened in an attempt to stop it "catching" on the base of the pan. My grandson watched and alerted me when black bits were coming up at a simmer. I was disappointed and blancmange was thrown away. I gave it a second chance and made a white sauce [did not add cheese] and again Stirr made a mess of that, the sauce burnt. I salvaged some without black bits and cooked using bamboo spoon as usual. I feel I can't trust it again so it remains in a cupboard being a complete waste of space. I have NEVER burnt a white sauce cooking the conventional way. I am really disappointed.

1 stars out of 5 Awful!

by Sarah Carter

Awful, awful, awful! It doesn't rotate, it doesn't "stirr", it is certainly not a "revolution in my pan", it is not a "wizard that allows you to get on with other tasks" - if anything it creates more work because you have such a wide spread spatter to then clear up. I just couldn't get this to do any stirring no matter how deep my pan, or the liquid it contained. I am very, very disappointed with this item and I thought I could rely on the Lakeland name. If I could give it no stars as a rating then I would!

5 stars out of 5 Stirr Revolutionised My Lunchtime

by Mr Rea

I got Stirr as a gift, at first I didn’t think I would use it. But it has been brilliant! I use it every day to stir my soup at lunchtime while I make some toast and read the paper! The soup gets heated up evenly and I can catch up on the latest news, perfect. I’ve since bought some for Christmas presents.

1 stars out of 5 STIRR

by Mrs hardick

A huge disappointment! Just about works in a deep saucepan but is not substantial enough to keep anything but the thinnest of liquids moving. Much anticipated but did not fulfil its promise on this occasion -very unusual for a Lakeland item.

1 stars out of 5 DISASTER !!

by Ms Noeleen Hanley

Stir !!! I don't think so. Want to decorate your kitchen surfaces or your cooker no problem. ! I purchased this stir for my Mum who has parkinsons and thought what a great idea for someone with her particular problems unable to stir with a stable hand she herself would decorate the surfaces she didn't need the stir to make matters worse having to clean up the mess. No matter what size the pots were we couldnt get it to be a success at all. Totalally useless which is unlike Lakeland products in general they are fantastic.

1 stars out of 5 Waste of space

by robert french

It seemed like such a good idea. It's an idea that doesn't work in practise. In a small pan, it won't turn at all; in a large pan it slides all over the place, and occasionally falls over, splatting soup on your work-surface. In the exactly right-sized pan, it will stir, PROVIDED that the liquid is not too thick. Forget porridge or thick soups. Basically, before I threw it in the garbage, it was wasting space in my kitchen. Unusual for a Lakeland product..this is only the second that has been a disaster, out of hundreds bought over the years.

1 stars out of 5 Waste of money

by Mrs williams

I wish I had checked the reviews on this item BEFORE I purchased it but saw it in the store and thought it would be great. I have tried to use it a couple of times now but each time it just made a terrible mess leaving me seriously disappointed

Inappropriate? - Report this

Please note: Minimum size pan for item to work is 5.75" - 6" diameter. The liquid needs to cover the feet and the rudder completely to prevent it from splattering. This will work the best on stainless steel pans. When used on coated surface it tends to drag and not be as effective. I'm sorry that on this occasion the product wasn't as expected. We'll be in touch shortly.

1 stars out of 5 Stir

by Frances

I was very disappointed with this product. I could not leave it to stir becauase it made such a mess, everything sploshed out of the sides of the pan. I tried it with several different liquids with no sucess. It might be better with thicker liquids but then what's the point in having it because i thought it could be used to stir sauces to thicken them without lumps!

3 stars out of 5 A great idea.

by Miss Elaine Stewart

This is such a good idea I couldn't wait to order one. I found that in the pan I ordinarily use for making sauces I ended up with so many splashes all over the hob. I think it will work better with a smaller basi pan with more height. Unfortunately I have an induction hob and so I am restricted in the size of pan I can use. Still working on trying to find a solution......

4 stars out of 5 what a Stirrrrrrrrr

by amanda allen

love the stirr but if you don't want to spend ages cleaning the cooker and surrounding area use a deep pan! works best in slightly thickened sauces as very thin ones such as beef gravy splash! if the sauce gets too thick it stops going round but with a bit of practice, you, like me will soon wonder how you managed without one!

5 stars out of 5 Hands free Stirrer

by gillian

I am delighted with the stirr, I run a busy farm guest house and provide evening dinner and the gravy is always the last thing I prepare so it is a wonderful gadget a great time saver. A tall saucepan would help to stop the gravy etc splashing over onto the cooker.

3 stars out of 5 It's almost as good as it sounds

by Donald

In general this is a good gadget, although rather overpriced. Beware that there is a minimum size (diameter/depth) of saucepan (obviously), but also a minimum depth of whatever mixture you want to stir. Otherwise, when you switch on it just sprays sauce, soup, etc., everywhere. Consequently, not really suitable for small quantities (which sauces often are!). However, overall it's fair value for money.

3 stars out of 5 Stirring Stuff

by Mikle Coker

I think this is more useful than some of the reviews would suggest! The main caveat is that it can redecorate the whole kitchen if you stand it in liquid that is too shallow - and this does limit its usefulness. The answer is to make sure that it's OK before you go away! I have used it with porage, soups and sauces, and find it very useful. Very thick things, or lumpy things like casseroles would obviously not be suitable, but it definitely can prevent smooth thickened liquids from 'catching', and I'm glad I bought it. I would have given it four stars if it had worked at shallower liquid levels.
