I have had two of these mats. They work very well. At the bed of every washing up session I always wash the sink and make sure all stains and food particles are removed. I have never had a permanent stain as they can always be removed with a mild bleach solution leaving the mat like new. Tomato and exotic sauces and even baked bean stains are easily removed.

I wish I'd read the reviews before I bought one. It looked gorgeous for 2 days until I too washed up a pan with pasta sauce in it and ended up with an orange mat. I bought it because I have a porcelain sink and I wash cans before I recycle causing rust rings which look awful. My sink now looks far worse with an orange mat in there (my kitchen is pink and cream!). This is only the second complaint in over 20 married years I've had cause to complain so I won't go overboard - just really disappointed. I'd vote 0 stars but there is no option for that.

A note from the team: Thanks for placing your review. The supplier has commented "we are constantly searching for a plastic that isn't stained by tomato/curry etc but still has flexibility to be made into sink mats. At this time, the plastic we are using is the best we can find". Regular washing, rinsing and drying (preferably after every use, but particularly when a tomato sauce or other similar liquids have been used) will help. The mat should be taken out of the sink at the end of the washing up and not constantly left in the sink. We'll be in touch.

I have never felt compelled to write a review for a Lakeland product and have never had cause to complain about a Lakeland product before but in this case I am doing both! This product is dreadful! I followed the instructions to the letter and rinsed it after every use allowing it to drain. However after a very short time I now have an orange pebble mat to grace my new sink. After only one wash of a pasta sauce it is permanently discoloured. How a manufacturer can produce a product unfit for its purpose is beyond me but even worse Lakeland have chosen to sell it! Additionally, I have since logged on to this website and read approximately 50 disgruntled reviews and yet Lakeland continue to stock it! A company that prides itself on customer service and satisfaction! You should be ashamed Lakeland!

Not entirely bad!”
I have had a pebble sink mat for my stainless steel sink for the last 12 mths and have just reordered another one. Ok it can discolour a bit but a drop of bleach in some warm water and it is fine again. It turns white as opposed to clear plastic after a time. The good thing is my new sink is scratch free and I will continue to use the mat until something better arrives. I also have one on my draining board.

Was delighted to see this product in the store, which fitted my sink perfectly [the larger one]. Even recommended it to my friend as it looked so good on my new ceramic sink. Sadly it has now gone orange and filthy looking, despite washing it after every use and cleaning with cleaning solutions. The worse thing is it even left some pebble shaped stains on my white ceramic sink! I wish I had seen all the reviews in the website before buying this product. Did not doubt about the quality before buying the product as Lakeland was selling it. Very disappointed. Edited - within few days of posting this review, the Lakeland team contacted me and did the necessary things, including steps to clear the marks caused by the pebble mat on my sink! Very impressed with the quality of the customer care.

A real disappointment”
by Mrs Rhodes
This product has been a huge disappointment and I too wish I had read the reviews BEFORE I bought it. It just discolours so quickly, bleaching, scrubbing and washing at 60 degrees have no effect on removing stains. I have to say this product is one not to buy unless you want people thinking you have a serious hygiene problem in your kitchen! I've thrown mine away as I live 30 miles from my nearest Lakeland shop so it's not economic for me to return it!

Not fit for purpose.”
by Mrs Fisher
What a shame I didn't read the reviews of this product before I bought it. MIne too has gone a horrible shade of orange after only a few uses. Having read the Lakeland advice about washing it after every use and taking it out of the sink - well if I had known that this was necessary I wouldn't have bought it in the first place. Also mine has gone mishaped round the plug-hole end. Maybe it was due to boiling water being poured over it - then again I sort of expected it to be able to withstand such temperatures. A big disappointment!

0 stars - but not an available option! What a great product....until you actually use it! It was orange and dirty looking within a couple of weeks. This looks particularly horrible in my white ceramic Belfast sink. A very disappointing product, still promoted by Lakeland, despite customers concerns and comments.

COLOURED PEBBLE MAT”
by BARRY BARNES
New white Franke stone sink / pebble mat. What a super idea. But within a very short time the mat takes on an orange appearance despite regular rinsing and drying. One cannot afford to leave it in the bottom of the sink for fear of what visitors might say. Lakeland, it is not like you to sell an inferior product. How can I be proud of this item? How should we care for it. Looking forward to hearing from you.......

I have just had a new belfast sink & was looking for something to stop it from scratching. When I saw these I thought great. When the product first went in I was really pleased then after a week I noticed it had gone really discoloured and dirty looking, now I am thinking of just putting it in the bin cause it makes the sink look dirty and with the sink being white porclein!! Very diappointed and they weren't cheap either I bought two for both my sinks-what a mistake!!

Turned brown soon and went in the bin”
I, too, had problem with the mat changing colour soon after I had it. Tried all sorts to get the colour off but in vain. It went in the bin before all my guests came in.

Trial and error”
by Mrs Frost
I bought a large pebble mat for my new kitchen sick but as soon as I put it in the dry unused sink, two pebbles went shocking pink in colour. I had read warnings about the potential for tea and tomato staining but this was totally unexpected. I needed this type of product for my fine china which needs to be hand-washed and I thought careful rinsing would avoid the staining problem. How wrong can you get? Despite rinsing the china before washing it, and despite rinsing the mat after every use, the rest of the mat went a grubby orange colour within a week. Bi-carb, bleach, washing soda have had no effect whatsoever. Whilst I was on holiday in the Lakes, I mentioned this to a staff member at Windermere who suggested that I return it to my nearest store so the manufacturer could see the problem and I could get a refund, but my nearest store is over an hour's drive from where I live. As a temporary substitute I am using some blue, dimpled shelf liner that I bought from Lakeland about 10 years ago. The colour might clash with the kitchen but at least it always looks clean and I'm not ashamed to have it in my kitchen sink. I do think the manufacturer should be given the opportunity to see for themselves how quickly and how poorly their product deteriorates and I am shocked that Lakeland are still promoting this product on their literature/web site given the number of complaints. This is a NO STAR product but the web site won't allow me to rate it as such.

I was initially thrilled with the Pebble sink mat but was disappointed to find that it did not retain its original appearance. It appears to have taken on a brown hue despite my attempts to clean it with bicarbonate of soda and even bleach.

Pebble sink mat”
I've had one of these pebble sink mats since February and it's still the same colour as when new. I didn't cut a hole in it for the plug as I have the sunken plug type and I knew, that if I had to go underneath the mat to let the water out it would remind me to take the mat up, rinse it and put it over the tap or drainer to drain. It works that way for me. I wouldn't be without it.

I too have had problems keeping the mat looking clean and fresh. However it does protect the sink surface well. So any cleaning advice would be welcome

After just 1 week of use, the mat has discoloured, it's not a dirty looking colour. This is a high maintenance product as you have to clean after each use and is difficult to stop discolouration. I have tried cleaning with bicarbonate, bleach and on the top shelf of the dishwasher but still looks discoloured. I purchased this product from the Reading shop fate rave reviews from another shopper.

I bought the large mat last Saturday and exactly one week later it's ready for the bin. It fitted well and looked good until I washed up after a curry. Now it has terrible orange stains and looks like food/grease is trapped beneath (which it isn't). This should be able to withstand doing the washing-up! Perhaps manufacturing this in coloured material rather than clear would get over the problem.

I think this mat is wonderful. I have a new ceramic sink with the plug in the centre and I was able to cut out a hole accordingly. Cleans well too.

I Bought thi product last Saturday and the large version was only half the size of my sink so I was going to buy another one. However, I then did some washing up and after the first time it was VERY stained. I have since logged in and seen all the bad reviews for this product. I am very disappointed as you would expect a product that is made for a sink to be able to withstand the washing up! I would expect a full refund.

Really liked this useful mat, so much I bought two! but in the end got rid of them both due to the excessive staining.
