I bought a large pebble mat for my new kitchen sick but as soon as I put it in the dry unused sink, two pebbles went shocking pink in colour. I had read warnings about the potential for tea and tomato staining but this was totally unexpected. I needed this type of product for my fine china which needs to be hand-washed and I thought careful rinsing would avoid the staining problem. How wrong can you get? Despite rinsing the china before washing it, and despite rinsing the mat after every use, the rest of the mat went a grubby orange colour within a week. Bi-carb, bleach, washing soda have had no effect whatsoever. Whilst I was on holiday in the Lakes, I mentioned this to a staff member at Windermere who suggested that I return it to my nearest store so the manufacturer could see the problem and I could get a refund, but my nearest store is over an hour's drive from where I live. As a temporary substitute I am using some blue, dimpled shelf liner that I bought from Lakeland about 10 years ago. The colour might clash with the kitchen but at least it always looks clean and I'm not ashamed to have it in my kitchen sink. I do think the manufacturer should be given the opportunity to see for themselves how quickly and how poorly their product deteriorates and I am shocked that Lakeland are still promoting this product on their literature/web site given the number of complaints. This is a NO STAR product but the web site won't allow me to rate it as such.
