Gravy Skimmer Cat Ref: 5034by Mrs Sheena Spencer

1 stars out of 5

Gravy Skimmer

Sorry Lakeland but this item seems to fall short unlike the majority of your products. The gravy skimmer is far too small to do the job. Another point to consider is that if you fill the little jug too much, the gravy and fat will pour over the top of the jug before any fat free gravy comes out of the spout and over your work surface.

A note from the team: Thanks for the review and taking the time to speak to me on the phone. I'm sorry that the skimmer was too small for your needs.

I have owned one of these this little skimmers for the past 10 years it is used almost every week and is crystal clear. I couldn't make my roast dinners without it. I have never had a problem with it. Once emptied I squirt washing up liquid in blast it under a hot tap rinse it and then bung it in the dishwasher job done!!

Because the spout and the jug are the same level, when you pour gravy out of the spout, boiling hot oil tips out of the jug at the same rate.

Wonderful gravy skimmerby Mrs Neary

I have owned one of these gravy skimmers for at least five years. I have never had a problem and would certainly replace mine when it is necessary. My daughter has used mine also and now wants me to purchase one for her. A little tip for other readers. When I am putting the juices from pan into skimmer I always use either a piece of muslin or nylon stainer to collect the bits. Then you have no problem with blocked spout.

Getting startedby J

Gravy Skimmer

This product works well, apart from starting the procedure. When pouring the juice/fat mixture into the separator, the fat rises to the top of the main vessel and also the spout. Tilting to pour off the fat in the spout isn't entirely effective, since juices come away as well. Inserting a plug of kitchen roll into the spout to soak up the fat is a somewhat messy option. Better to have a means of closing the hole between vessel and spout, so that the poured mixture could settle, then opening to pour the juices. A simple spatula with a soft dished end (low-cost) should do it.

Bought this as I think the concept is fab, used it for the first time today & its OK not quite up to Lakeland standard as I have never ever been disappointed with a Lakeland buy yet. It does quite separate the fat from the juices completely. I got it in the sale for £5 its ok, would definately return if I'd paid full price.

Worked fine for a while, but now has an invisible leak, so useless. Wasn't worth the 9.99 I paid, can get similar products cheaper elsewhere now.

Wouldn't make gravy without it!by Annette

Gravy Skimmer

I was surprised when browsing the website to see this has received so many negative reviews. I've had mine years, and it does a wonderful job - I certainly haven't noticed any deterioration of the plastic and I always bung it in the dishwasher. Does away with time consuming skimming of fat off the pan juices for gravy. Has been an excellent buy!

Excellent productby Mrs Dixon

Gravy Skimmer

My friend and I have had the gravy skimmer for approx 7/8 years and we have been extremely pleased with it. Mine is used at least once a week and has eventually started cracking but to me this is acceptable after this period of time. It goes in the Aga and also in the dishwasher. I do agree that the spout is not easy to clean but with the assistance of a spout brush covered in washing up liquid it is no problem.

Not up to the jobby Mrs Parsons

Gravy Skimmer

I wish I'd read the reviews before I bought mine. It has developed a crack on the bottom and I had to throw it out. Agree that jug ought to be taller to avoid oil pouring over the top. No good having a plastic gravy skimmer that cannot take high temperatures and is not dishwashable. I'd love to have another one as it was useful but not keen on it being a short-term disposable item at that price!

I use this skimmer almost every week and it works admirably; granted the plastic doesn't remain clear but it doesn't mean the product isn't perfectly serviceable. I'm very sorry you appear to be discontinuing it.

Gravy Skimmer

This is a great idea for a product but the jug quickly crazes and then starts leaking so I've had to bin it. I wanted another one as I thought maybe mine had been faulty, but given the other reviews I can see that that this is a general issue with this product. When it works it's great, but it is an expensive product for such a short lifespan.

Gravy Skimmer

I bought this item the 1st one I bought started to crack and leak. I did buy a second one and this just distorted in the dishwasher even though it did state that it was dishwasher safe. I will not be purchasing another one as I feel that the quality of the item is not very good. I have read other reviews which have also found this item to have not been suitable.

Like some of the other reviewers I found that the jug "cracked" when hot fat was put in it and this has led to it leaking. Good idea but poor plastic not up to taking high temperature fat.

Definitely a design flaw!by A SIMMONS

1 stars out of 5

Gravy Skimmer

I bought two if these - one for me and one for my mum - as i thought they would be useful. I wish i hadn't bothered - if you tip the jug sufficiently to get the gravy out, the fat which has settled on top pours out of the top of the jug! So completely useless.

Useful but the spout can block upby Kate

4 stars out of 5

Gravy Skimmer

I've only used this a couple of times, so haven't experienced the crazing or leakage that others have mentioned. I have found it really useful, but with one small design glitch - the spout is too narrow (I'm sure the old style one with the slider didn't have this problem) - so if your pan juices have bits in, which they invariably do, they block up the spout. Even small bits seem to do this.

Rubbish productby Douglas MacLean

1 stars out of 5

Gravy Skimmer

I bought this a few weeks ago and I also read some of the reviews which were rather negative. However, I decided to give it a go. It is absolute rubbish. Spout fills with fat so I couldn't pour off the gravy. I left it for a few hours for the fat to harden, pierced the fat in the spout, tried to pour off the gravy and the fat in the main container poured over the side. What a waste of £10. I have had to rate this product 1 star as there is no facility to rate it 0 stars. Don't waste your money!!!!!!!!!!

Should've learnt from the first time!by Donna

1 stars out of 5

Gravy Skimmer

I have been unusually dissatisfied with this product - silly me as it's the second time around of buying it. Both times have been a disaster although my first skimmer lasted almost a year. I bought a 2nd one in October and it has already given up the ghost- 2weeks ago it started cracking as soon as the stock was poured in! I dared not put it in the microwave as it can, so it was pretty useless. This weekend it gave in and started leaking through the cracks. What a waste of £20 in total. I bought it the second time thinking it must have been a faulty one but it seems not - it's general!

Published 21 02 2012

A note from the team: It's always disappointing to hear that one of our products has not been up to our usual standards. I'll be in touch about the faulty gravy skimmer, please accept my apologies. Polycarbonate is dishwasher safe, however to prolong the life span of the product we would advise that it washed by hand.

Compared to the ones Lakeland used to stock this is expensive, poor quality and only does half the job. The older version had a strainer on top which also separated bits of meat, veg etc. from going into the jug.
