Not getting a grip”
by Mrs Wellings
I purchased these tongs several years ago and am about to give them to a charity shop. Why? Well, the spring-loading is so powerful that I can't pick anything up with them. Even my husband agrees that they seem to be made for a workout rather than for kitchen labour!

I brought these tongs for everyday use to replace my reliable but very old tongs. In the packaging the tongs looked good and felt nice, so I purchased them from the Bluewater store. When I got home and open the packaging the tongs literally sprang open! They open too wide to hold in a comfortable grip and are also stiff to close.

If only they were like the photograph!”
The picture is clearly not of the tongs as supplied these days. My old pair are indeed like the photo, and that's what I was hoping for. Instead, you get what would appear to be something that has been used as a wish-bone and pulled apart until the ends are at least four inches apart (twice the distance in the photo). Also, because of the shape of the "ring" being kind of squashed instead of round, the handles are touching all the way along as the ends are brought together. The spring-force of the metal is so strong that it is very hard to actually bring the ends together anyway.

These are the only tongs I ever want to use! I tried a pair of those floppy long ones when my old tongs finally died but I threw them away in disgust! These are lovely and firm - you really can grip well with them! OK, I agree with the other customer who said you need to close them up a bit when you first get them, but after you have "adjusted" them, they are simply great!

OK with modification”
by Mrs Richards
It's true what the other reviewers say - these tongs are far too wide. When we opened the package and removed the restraining bag tie they sprung open to be 4 1/2 inches between the tips. My husband put his foot on the other end and managed to bend them back to what I would consider a normal opening (about 2 inches). After this simple home modification they are completely normal tongs.

Like other reviewers I found these too tricky to use with any ease, they have to be held so close to the bottom that I usually end up with burnt fingers. Have gone back to my old plastic tongs.

A note from the team: It's always disappointing when one of our products hasn't worked, and we'll contact you shortly about the lift and turn tongs. Thanks for your feedback.
I am disappointed to have to report that contrary to some of your reviewers I found it impossible to use these tongs. I bought a pair at the new Durham shop on Friday and gave them to my daughter on Saturday.I could not make them fit into my utensil pot because they were spread so far apart and due to my limited grip I had a great deal of difficulty in nipping them together. I would not trust them for lifting hot food. Thankfully she has found me a more suitable set on the internet so I am afraid that I will have to take pot luck if the quality is not up to Lakeland standard.

I have two sets of these and they are fantastic. They are easy to use and can be washed in the dishwasher. They are easy to grip together to lift and turn food and store easily in my utensil jar, with one side inside the jar and one outside. I just wish that they did a version exactly like this style with turning ends in a suitable material for non stick pans. Highly recommended.

These tongs are easy to use and are perfectly fit for purpose. Not stiff at all. In fact, in my opinion they are the best on the market and I have tried a few. Of course they are sprung. That is the whole point of them. Jeremy Stanley.

Compact and long lasting.”
by Nicky Huskinson
Unlike the other reviewers, I really like these and have two of them. They are quite stiff to close so not great if you don't have strong hands, but they're more compact than other tongs, so I find them easier. I like the fact that the actual 'paddle' bits are straight-ish and not curved. I store them in a utensils pot, with one side in the pot and the other out.

Lift & turn tongs”
by Mr D J Tyerman
I too found these tongs very difficult to compress. The material and construction were good but the curved 'hinge' was too stiff. I reduced the width of the metal along the top third of this curve to about half of the original. I can now compress the tongs easily between forefinger and thumb. My rating refers to the modified item but not to the original. Your manufacturer may wish to take note of the modification but I fear it is likely to increase the retail price.

Would not recommend these at all. Very hard to close and grip anything as they keep springing apart. Also there is no way to keep them closed so they take up space in the drawer. Disappointing.
