Dreadful product!by helen

Culinare Magican Auto

Worst tin opener ever! Incredibly difficult to get it to open to put onto the tin, then once the lid has been remover, impossible to get the lid away from the opener! Very poor design, if this is what a lifetime guarantee gives you, you can keep it!

Magican "does not do what is says on the tin"by Babs Troke

I decided to invest in what I thought was a quality product that would last for years. I paid 7.99 at Lakeland in Eastbourne in Sept 2012 for the Magican Auto and it broke a month ago. I threw it out, but just found the receipt. I won't get conned again and have returned to the butterfly opener at £1.50. Very disappointed with the product and think Lakeland should stop selling it.

Opens Can but won't release lidby JP

Culinare Magican Auto

This can opener is easy and comfortable to use so far as cutting the lid from the can. However, the lid is then gripped by the can opener and pressing the buttons at the side doesn't always release the lid. It can be fiddly to remove the lid from the can opener.

Purchased this after using inadequate tin openers. Good quality and worth every penny. Elderly relative finds it easy to use and good grip on the handle means it's not going to slip.

I bought one of these a while ago and at first was satisfied. However, I've just come onto the website to order a different tin opener. This one does not do what it claims to do - I have arthritis and thought it was magical at first but now it seems blunt and does not open tins properly - last week I resorted to using a knife to prize open a partially opened tuna tin - not safe or advisable. I can't give this any more than one star - simply because 0 stars isn't an option. Would definitely not recommend.

I bought this can opener as I've been havng problems with my hands for a while now and finding it difficult to use my normal opener. It is a fantastic can opener and so easy to use. I would recommend it to anyone who has pain in their hands to try it.

Bought one of these about 18 months ago. It's awful, just absolutely awful. During one turn it only seems to actually work on about a quarter of the turn so it takes ages to open a can. Complete waste of money - not impressed. Not even worth one star!

I thought I was making a bit of an investment when I bought this, but having struggled with it for months, it has finally given up the ghost. The only way I can open a tin with it is by puncturing a series of holes around the edge of the can... Have just had to borrow my neighbour's old-fashioned one. Does a lifetime guarantee mean I can have my money back?

Phew, thank goodness I read these reviews. I have had one of these openers for just over 2 years and am about to throw it out with the rubbish! Forgot about the 'Lifetime Guarantee'. My Magican sticks every time now and because I have arthritis in both hands it is very painful trying to release the Magican, sometimes from both the can and also the lid of the can. Was perfect at first but now so awful to use, I dread having to open a can. Trying to decide which opener to buy next.

This opener works very well but unfortunately ever time I squeeze the lever at the side it pinches my hand which is rather painful. I wish I had not bought.

Hi there, like others here, I bought my Magican Auto about 5 years ago and got myself in quite a flap cooking for people the other day when it just would not open a single can! Disappointed!

Basically this is one of the best tin openers we have had BUT it needs a stronger spring to make the handle spring out when you want to release the lip. I tried dropping oil into it to make it work better but that only produced a 50% improvement. I have asked for a replacement with a strong spring.

I bought mine from a lakeland shop about 4 years ago. Now it has become very temperamental, not releasing the lid once removed and so stiff and difficult to use that none of the rest of the family will go near it! Looking for a new one on line today while doing the rest of my lakeland shopping and like a previous reviewer amazed it has a lifetime guarantee.

Like the last 2 reviews I am also looking to replace my Magican Auto. It worked really well for a while and now the top has broken off I can place it back on to open a tin with care. Disappointed as it has been a really good product.

I was searching your website to decide which can opener to order to replace my magican auto bought from you as a gift, and was surprised to see it has a lifetime guarantee. Initially I was delighted with it, but for sometime now I have had great difficulty releasing the lid, very frustrating when in a hurry! I have now decided to try the Oxo good grips one having read other reviews, hoping this will prove more satisfactory

this can opener does open cans well, but the release button keeps sticking making it frustrating to use as it is difficult to remove the lids from the opener to dispose of. I am about to order a different opener that is easier to use.

This is to replace the other can opener I bought from Lakeland that was totally useless. Its very good and easy to use (unless you are hubby) however be careful cleaning it as water makes the release button stick and in my case wouldn't work for a few days. When it did it pinched the skin... ouch. Otherwise so far so good.

Would I buy this again? No.by Ms Law

I've had my Magican for around 4 or 5 years. The release button has stuck repeatedly - a common complaint from the other reviews. It's sticking so badly now that I'm about to replace it - but not with another one of these. It's long lasting, yes, and is easy to use but the sticky release button has been a continuous irritation. It will be a relief to get a new can opener.
