After struggling for a year, now throwing this out”
by Mr Salter
I have struggled for a year now with this product. As a reasonably experienced amateur cook, I know what I need from a slow cooker. One of those things is control. Because there are only two settings - High and Low - this, as I have found to my cost, is far too imprecise. The upshot is food that is regularly overcooked or dried out. The last straw was yesterday when four wonderful pieces of osso bucco were decimated after cooking on the 'High' setting.

I love it”

I had mine as a freebie after I bought the ice cream machine. I love this and really don't know how I lived without one before. Mind you it is nothing like the old ones.

Excellent for some things, not as good for others”
Lovely looking kitchen appliance. It is an excellent slow cooker and the sear function is a bonus. Strangely, I haven't found it very precise for cooking rice and find myself manually adding extra minutes, which rather defeats the purpose. The best result I had for basmati was when I left the rice to soak for 30 mins and rinsed the water clear before cooking (with 5 minutes extra cooking time). It can be used to make coconut rice with no sticking. I have yet to try the risotto function as I feel I should master basic white rice first!! Steamed veg comes out perfect with the steam function.

Most people must think I'm mad, buying a Croc-Pot for the house and another cooker for my Caravan, but it had to be done. Why Sage, well you have many types available to you in the marketplace, but after seeing this one on the Lakeland website! I had to give it a try. Build quality is fantastic, from the minute you get it out of the box to the minute you power it on. Cool touch sides, easy to use, simply outstanding. I am cooking a lamb Biryani which starts by searing meat and slow cooking for 4 hrs. This machine is amazing cool to the touch even after 6 minutes of sear cooking. Thanks Sage

Love this appliance!”
I haven't yet had a bad experience with this appliance. I have made casseroles, steamed rice and risotto and all have come out with great results. Would be nice if this came with a few recipe ideas. The only real negative (which is why it has 4 stars instead of 5) is the price tag. Wish it had been a little less pricey!

A note from the team: Thanks for placing your review. There are lots of recipe sites for slow cooking to be found on the website and we are currently selling two cookbooks (items 14570 and 16731) both selling at £5.99. We hope that helps.
Does a fantastic job at rice and risotto - absolutely delicious, and really fluffy. The sear function allows you to brown the meat before cooking to seal in the flavour, and the slow cooker does the job perfectly. Perhaps the previous reviewers were not using it correctly - I imagine if you put cold water and un-seared meat straight from the fridge, it would take a while to warm it up, but seared meat and hot water is up to simmering in a few minutes.

SAGE MULTI COOKER”
by WILLIAM MCINNES
NOT IMPRESSED WITH THIS COOKER, THOUGHT BY BEING RECOMMENDED BY HESTON IT WOULD BE SOMETHING ABOVE A CHEAP SLOW COOKER. OTHER THAN COOKING A NICE RISOTTO ITS OTHER FUNCTIONS ARE VERY JUBIOUS. I HAVE FOUND ON SLOW COOKING IT NEVER GETS HOT ENOUGH TO COOK FOOD FULLY RESULTING IN TOUGH FOOD, NOT WHAT I HAD EXPECTED FROM A HESTON RECOMMENDED PRODUCT. I HAVE PREVIOUSLY HAD ANOTHER MAKE WHICH WAS A MUCH BETTER ALL ROUND COOKER.

The nicest risotto I’ve ever tasted”
I bought this as a replacement slow cooker. Very pleased that it also makes the nicest risotto I’ve ever tasted. Saute and risotto settings mean the risotto is prepared all in the same pan, then apart from stirring once after 15 minutes you just leave it. I have no idea how it knows when it is cooked, but when it beeped the risotto was perfect. And it cooks rice, steams and slow cooks too. Brilliant. It has a big pan - great for big family meals.
