Duo icing needs practise”
After some fantastic help from Lakeland customer service I had my first go with the duo icing kit today. I worked out how to attach everything and filled the bag. This is where it went wrong. Icing came from the top and then forced the bag from the nozzel. I believe I had over filled the bag and that the icing was too thick. Next time I will use about half the quantity on each side and maybe a looser mix. Looking forward to round 2

Pleasant surprise, brill little set”
by Mrs Green
I was very dubious about this set having read such mixed reviews, however I was very pleased after using it. I make and decorate cakes to sell, so the finish must look professional and I must say it certainly did. On first glance I did think the nozzles looked cheap, however after trying the nozzles, they certainly weren't as bad as I was expecting and worked fine. I found the flower nozzle worked best for me for the swirl on top of my cupcakes as it gave a more defined look however that is my personal preference. Great set for the price. Would have paid more if the set had metal nozzles.

Very happy worked for me despite mixed reviews”
Icing's not my strong point so I took plenty of time and exercised great care and was extremely amazed with the results. I too didn't have any instructions so gathered all my information from these reviews. Yes it's fiddly to assemble. I softened my buttercream with extra milk and spooned it in a teaspoon at a time alternate sides, placing the piping bag in a jug for support. The divider tip does look a bit delicate as another reviewer has said. Trim the piping bag tip gradually until you get the tightest fit to prevent any icing oozing. Not something to be done if you are short of time!

Disappointed for the first time!”
This is the first time I have ever been disappointed with a Lakeland product. I found it difficult to get the icing in to each side of the bag, I got covered in icing out of the top, and the end result was very unsatisfactory. I bake a lot and my cakes have never looked like a child iced them before! I shall go back to my normal Lakeland silicone icing bag, with a huge sense of disappointment.

A note from the team: We're sorry to hear you've been disappointed with this product. Filling each side of the bag with equal amounts and twisting the bag at the half way stage helps when you're piping. We hope you'll be willing to try again.
I bought this set thinking it would make my life easier, having been duo icing for some time using one normal bag, I saw the duo bag and nozzles and decided it would make life a lot easier, how wrong I was. Even though my buttercream is very smooth and easy to pipe the finish I am getting is far from professional and looks like a child has been decorating my cakes. It has also on occasions 'exploded the icing all over the place'. This set is now relegated to the back of the cupboard and I have gone back to my original way using the one bag method.

very disappointed and wouldnt recommend”

was looking forward to using this for the first time but what a letdown. I followed instructions that were in online reviews (why arent there instructions with the actual product on filling, if its so vital to the performance, rather than having to log on and read online reviews??) my buttericng was soft & smooth, I spooned it in evenly each side but was a complete failure. Looked nothing like images on website and I would never in a million years admit I was responsible for decorating the cakes! (normally my efforts get lots of compliments at charity cake sales). I love lakeland but not t

A note from the team: Thanks for taking the time to write your review. I'm sorry that you'd been disappointed with the kit. There should be an instruction leaflet included, I'm sorry if this wasn't the case. I'll be in touch shortly to help.
I have been creating multi tone icings for years, so was excited to find Lakeland had created what I thought would be a simpler way to achieve the same results. I was very wrong. It was extremely messy, and to have the icing soft enough to not give myself a hernia trying to pipe it, meant that it was too soft to achieve the desired result. The limited cheap plastic nozzles are also a let down. Sorry Lakeland, this is the only thing I've ever bought from you that I've been disappointed in. I shall be returning to my old way of creating multi tone icing, which I also think looks better.

Duo icing kit”
I wish I had bought this kit instead of the larger one. The largerer bags are massive, and will not be used. Much better to purchase this set as I have heard great reviews from people who have purchased it

I was a little sceptical about this kit but purchased it on offer and used it yesterday for the first time - what a joy to use. I found it easy to put together and to actually pipe. Tried it with buttercream and with icing. Although it worked well with both, buttercream definitely gave the best results. I am going to try it with coloured meringues next time round and look forward to experimenting. I found the small bag a trifle too small but am sure the larger bags will turn out to be just what I need - what a great tool and a joy to use!

I am really pleased with this product! When I was making a tractor birthday cake for my little boy I decided to use it to pipe milk and dark chocolate buttercream "furrows" for the tractor to stand on. I was a bit frustrated at this point, as I had not taken enough care over the consistancy of the buttercream, so therefore I did run into trouble like other reviewers said. However, spreaking only for oneself, a machine is only as good as the opperater!

i bought this a whle ago and only recently got round to using it! being a huge Lakeland fan I was disappointed with this product. It needs the icing to be quite runny to work through the nozzles so it doesn't hold it's shape. The end result is very poor looking! The nozzles are very basic and are not well made. It is a cheap product so can't really moan about the cheap quality! I won't be using this again for any of my baking but it might be a nice novelty item to use with the kids.

A note from the team: We're sorry to hear that you've been disappointed with this product When testing our buying team found the softer the mix, the less pressure will be needed to put the mixture through the nozzles and will help create a duo coloured icing finish.
Duo Colour Icing Kit”
I found the kit easy to use and the results were really good, but I have one recommendation, the outside of the bag is quite slippery it would be really great if they were made of the same stuff as the 'Get A Grip Icing Bags' which are just great and so easy to handle even when full of butter icing.

A note from the team: Thanks for placing your review. We're sorry that the outside of the bag doesn't suit you and have passed on the suggestion to the buyer.
I got this for my birthday and I was very keen to use it. I've now used this two times and both times the cupcakes look amazing and I've received many complements from friends and family. I do agree with other reviewers that it is a bit awkward to set up, but it's worth it!

Made my wrists hurt!”
I was really excited to try this duo icing kit. I followed the instructions and managed to get a really good seal on the nozzle. There was no icing coming out the sides and I even managed to change the nozzle head twice. The problem I found, was that it physically hurt my wrists to squeeze hard enough to get an even flow. If the icing was softer , then you loose the shape. I usually like to hold my cupcakes in one hand whilst I easily 'swirl' with the other, but I had to use both hands to force the icing through and therefore lost the style I was hoping to achieve. Hurt too much to use again.

A note from the team: Thanks for placing your review. We're sorry that using the bags is causing your hands to hurt and will be in touch shortly. A handy tip to help with the flow of the butter icing is the softer the butter the easier it flows. Filling each side of the bag with equal amounts and half way helps when you twist the bag to pipe.
Really pleased with the results”
I received this for Christmas as a secret Santa gift. I am no expert at icing cakes and normally the shapes I try all come out in a mess but I found this really easy to use. I filled with half chocolate and half vanilla icing and then tested first in the bowl to check that the icing was coming out at the same time. Worked really well for me and I managed to get the same effect as in the picture. The writing tips are large but then if you are trying to squeeze through two colours of icing anything smaller wouldn't work, I just won't be using them for writing anything, just decorations.

I've been reading through these reviews & I'm 13 years old & found it incredibly easy to use this product! I had to add a little milk to my chocolate buttercream to thin it out a little, but when I piped, the icing came out perfectly & held it shape! I filled the piping bag on my own and seeing as I'm not the best when it comes to getting things right with some areas in baking, it worked absolutely fine! Just put in a spoon at a time with the icing & I've reused my bags! When it comes to writing I have a bag that I just cut a tiny corner off a bag, use 1 side!

A note from the team: Lakeland's customers never fail to amaze. At such a young age you appear to be enjoying baking and have taken the time write a review that explains the best use of the product even adding your own personal tip on writing with icing. It's not fair Olivia you've made us feel hungry!

I firstly bought the separate duo piping bags (both sizes) and the coupling but as I have plenty of decent piping nozzles. I soon found out that you can only use the plastic nozzles from the Duo colour icing kit, so I had to go out & buy a kit yesterday. I tried to pipe two colours into the cupcakes today & found this kit to be the most infuriating thing that I have bought for a long time, as it is virtually impossible to get both colours of buttercream to flow out together in equal amounts.

A note from the team: We're sorry to hear you've experienced this problem. We've tested this colourful kitchen gadget and for best results try filling the bag with an equal spoonful in each side then repeat this process until you have enough for your icing needs.
Great little gadget”
I bought this a few weeks ago and have only managed to find the time to use it once. I think I need a second pair of hands to hold the bag while I fill it [lol], but loved the results. They weren't as good as the picture on the website here, but for a first attempt I was pretty chuffed with myself, particularly as I'm not that great at decorating anyway. I'm looking forward to having another go when I get the chance. I have tried once before to do 2 coloured icing by putting 2 different coloured icings in the same bag but the results weren't as good as this idea. Thanks Lakeland!!
