Battery rteplacementby Margaret Wheatley

3 stars out of 5

Thermospatula

The battery ran out in the middle of making marmalade, and I couldn't work out how to replace it. Thank you for the information you give among the comments. For those of you with vision like mine, the battery is LR44. Fiddly is an understatement when trying to replace. Until then I was delighted with this combination product, as good as the 5* reviews suggest, but marked down due to being unsure how long the battery support will last being lifted repeatedly.

I made some marmalade with the spatula and it set perfectly. So the temperature is accurate and as it was digital no guesswork. What I didn't like was the position of the on/off switch. As I was stirring my hand kept turning it on and off.

Thermospatula

I was given this for Christmas as I've started making fudge regularly and thought it looked much easier than trying to stir the boiling mix around a thermometer clipped on the side of the pan. However, last week while stirring the fudge mix, the silicone split where the point of the thermometer goes in at the stirring end. It's a real shame, as up until then it was my favourite bit of kitchen kit. For the price I'd have hoped it would last more than half a dozen uses.

Battery problemby Antoni

Thermospatula

My wife had only used it once -next came to use it the battery was flat. Really annoying. It took a bit of working out and I see this is a recurrent problem. Someone has replied with how to get the battery out but this was incomplete. You cannot get the small screws out until you have pulled down and out of the way the circular brown plastic ring-prise it down with a knife. Would be useful to say all this in the product info together with the battery type. Only can have one star due to battery problem

Bought from the Reading Store. The accuracy of the thermometer is super. The combo works really well, particularly when I'm tempering chocolates. So far, the temperature read-out switches itself off if inactive for a while... so no unexpectedly flat batteries. This thermospatula has had almost daily use - the run up to Christmas, then for New Year presents, and it is now in use for family and friends' birthdays. Used with the polycarbonate moulds, I'm finding I'm making much-in-demand chocolates. Thanks Lakeland

Ruined my Christmasby Mrs Armitage

Thermospatula

I have had my thermospatula for a while and really liked it but a week before Christmas the battery died with no warning. Changing it was a nightmare, so fiddly to take apart and horrendous to get back together, but we eventually managed it. On Christmas Eve I tried to use it to make the sweets and chocolates that I had intended to give as gifts to family and friends. It wouldn't turn on. At all. I tried changing the battery again, but no joy. The thermospatula is ruined and so were my gifts

Spatula temperatureby Eunice

3 stars out of 5

Thermospatula

Just brought this item a few days ago for tempering chocolate but, have noticed that when holding the top of the spatula for either stirring or to take the temperature the heat from my hand makes the temperature rise therefore this will in affect give a misleading temperature. Have tried this as a test on a cold marble slab with the spatula laying down but as soon as you touch the top (where the on/off button is ) the temperaure rises. This does cause a problem for accurate temperatures.

Such disappointmentby Trevor

Thermospatula

We've obviously done the same as other people - put the thing in the drawer and it's been knocked to the "on" position which is why the battery's flat after only using it once. Shame because it worked well for jam setting. Poor design, the power switch should be redesigned.

Disappointedby Mrs Russell

Thermospatula

I thought this product was going to be perfect for tempering chocolate but unfortunately it is far to flimsy to do so. Once the chocolate starts to get to a lower temperature 28ish degrees the spatula cannot cope with the thickness of it and the themometer popped out of the casing as I stirred the chocolate. As i was washing up the spatula I noticed that neck of the spatula had actually split.I have also used the product for jam and although the functionality was fine, it is a little short to be stirring a bubbling pan of hot jam and i much prefer the preserving spoon.

Is this the best on the market??by Georgina Sillett

Changing the battery is just way too fiddly - other than that it does what it says it should do. I shall go back to my older style thermometer until I can find a digital one with easier battery replacement

So disappointed!by Lucy

1 stars out of 5

Thermospatula

I had high hopes for this product, so much so that I have bought it twice. The first time, the battery ran out very quickly - possibly it was mistakenly switched on when in the drawer? It is fiddly to replace the battery, and the screen snapped during replacement. So I bought a 2nd, but this one flickers on and off, and won't register over 102°C. I am boiling sugar, and I know that it is getting hotter than that! I won't buy a 3rd and I certainly would not recommend this product!

Thermospatula

I've just started making my own jam and found the 'setting point' part of a recipe quite nerve wracking. My other half bought this thermometer for me as a surprise recently and it is a brilliant invention! It takes the guess work out of jam making and my jam is perfect every time! The display has both C and F and is easy to read. I know at 220 degrees F my jam will set - no problem! I'm really pleased with this - thank you Lakeland for another excellent product! :)

Great but poor design...by Marion

Thermospatula

I bought this last year and loved it, used it for jam making and the convenience and ease of use were wonderful. Put it away carefully and took it out today to use for this years first batch of jam. Uh-oh - the little screen is blank! Struggled to get the screws undone, struggled even more to open the handle, REALLY struggled to get the battery out (had to bend the supports to do this), replaced the battery, Yay - the screen works - but how to close it? More struggling to get it near to closed, it isn't all the way. Just hope the little screws dont' fall in the jam! Need a betterdesign

A note from the team: To change the battery you do indeed remove the tiny screws first then pull the bottom section of the casing away to expose the battery housing. If holding the Thermospatula so the the spike part is to the left, the metal lug positioned at the 3 o'clock position is the best to bend as this will allow you to push the battery out using your screwdriver, change the battery and then return it to it's holding position. The bottom casing can then replaced by sliding it along the top half of the casing and then pushed firmly so that it clicks back in to place. We hope this helps and will be in touch soon.

battery issuesby stephanie

Thermospatula

This is a brilliant tool for tempering chocolate as it gives constant and accurate reading. It's only improvement would be if there was an auto-switch off; not because I forget to switch it off- but because I keep it with my other tools in a box where it has apparently been accidently switched on by knocking against another tool in the box (I presume) and the battery ran completely down without my knowing until I took it out to use and found it wouldn't even switch on!

I bought the thermometer spatula for making Greek yogurt as you really need to get the temperature right. It worked perfectly the first time I used it. I will most likely be making more, so I will see how it holds up.

Why has nobody made one of these before? I have fiddled around for years with a spoon or spatula and a separate thermometer and always end up spilling things. This is a godsend. Ideal for sauces etc (such as custards) that need constant stirring and careful temperature control.

to say the least. Even my husband could not undo the small screws with miniature tools so that we could activate the battery. We tried for 30 minutes. They would not move. it had to be returned, so I shall never know whether it was any good or not.

I opened this for the first time and although I pressed the on/off button it doesn't show a digital display. Am I doing something wrong?

Difficult to change the batteryby J

Thermospatula

This is a great product when it comes to making confectionary and sauces. Try stirring a fudge around traditional thermometer without it burning and you will know why. Had I reviewed this before the battery ran out I would have given it 5 stars but sadly not to be I found the battery very hard to replace and once replaced it took ages to get the cover back on. And to top that it no longer worked and have tried replacing the the second battery just to check that it wasn't a dud.
