Initially I really loved this product, and for a while it performed well. However after regular use the trays began to get brittle and to break up. I did buy several replacement trays from Lakeland but the same thing happened quite soon after purchase no matter how carefully I used and washed them. Small pieces of the hard plastic from the trays have fallen into the food items I have made with this dehydrator, and it is because of this that I eventually threw this item away. I think the trays really need to be made of metal. Sadly I didn't realise that Lakeland would have refunded me.

Love it, love it, love it.”
My tomato glut is now in airtight containers. Bit of experimenting needed. I found it best to place slices round the outside of the trays rather than fill them up in the middle so I got more even drying. Rotate the trays after a few hours and swap bottom to top in the morning. Sorted.

Dehydrator trays need kid gloves”
by Peter Dean
Dehydrator works OK. Drying a little uneven so you have to shift things around. But to do so you need to switch off and allow to cool or the trays start falling apart with any movement while trays have heat in them. I realised this almost at once and allowed cooling but one tray has now broken in two. This was a tray I tried to stick with heat resistant glue. This product would be much better with stainless steel racks and if I were buying again I would pay more for that. You get what you pay for. If i can get spare racks (?) i could make this limp along for a few years wearing my kid gloves.

I bought this anticipating many years of happy drying! At first the machine performed well, however then the trays started to break with an audible Ping; each time it was used. I received three free replacements and things went well again for a while. I dried some bananas a couple of weeks ago and again that Ping and another tray bit the dust. The machine also seemed to be running at a much higher temperature than usual. I have therefore given up and returned my dryer to a local store and received a refund. Sadly a poor quality machine needing which I would not recommend.

A note from the team: Thanks for taking the time to write your review. I'm sorry that the machine had developed a faulty. I'm glad my colleagues at the store we're able to put things right for you.
I bought this after reading about the wonderful health benefits of dehydrated food. I was sadly very disappointed. I cant see how it saves money as the machine has to be on for many hours, you need to put an awful lot of fruit/veg in to fill it up, but doesn't amount to much after cooking. I did try as the book stated soaking the fruit in juice which was an added expense but I couldn't see any difference in taste. Potatoes were a complete waste of time although kale and onions did work. The machine is quite noisy when it is working although it seems well made. Not worth the money or effort.

I bought this after seeing a similar model used by a friend. There is an element of trial and error at first but the results are worth it. So far the apple slices are really good (get the apple master to make preparation easy) and pineapple superb. Still some problems with certain foods sticking but working on a solution to this without using oil

This arrived last week and I've tried apples (my daughter thinks they should be thicker) they were very nice. Bananas we weren't so impressed with. Would like to see more advice in the instruction manual other than just trial and error until you hit on the right thickness/timing. Will continue with apples for the time being and maybe try organges

For the third year running I have tried using this piece of equipment, and this time it is going to the tip. i am better off using the electric oven on a very low temperature.

The world is my dehydrated oyster!”
I've had this for a couple of weeks and have tried bananas, butternut squash and oranges. In all these cases getting the thickness of the slices right is a work in progress. Where I have enjoyed most success is with meat products, dried liver treats for the dogs and beef 'jerky' for my husband both without the additives and saltiness of shop bought products. Both have come out really well and I'm very pleased.

Pleased with purchase over all, not sure on its lastability.”
by Mrs Turner
I've been enjoying using my product since October and over all I am pleased, I enjoy using it with mushrooms in particular and have good results. I went to use it last night however and have noticed that my trays and lid seem to have "stress" fractures on them, I have never dropped them and have only ever cleaned as the instructions directed (one can only assume it is caused by the heat), so all in all I enjoy my product, but am now worried about it's longevity.

Thanks Lakeland for introducing me to dehydrating”
I bought the dehydrator as soon as I saw Lakeland selling it. (The ones I'd seen elsewhere were too expensive just to try). I love it. Pineapples, bananas, cherries and tart apples are my fave dried snacks now. And it introduced me to the world of wholefood/raw food eating (unprocessed foods). I dry onion, celery, mushroom, spring onion, garlic to make into seasoning powders. Sweet tomatoes are great for snacks or storing in oil or ground into powder, for long storage, to make tomato soup. As a result I didn't notice I'd lost a stone in weight! I waste less food and can store them for longer.

Not overly impressed”
by Mr Andrew McIntyre
The trays in my dehydrator have become brittle and started breaking away from the outer rim, especially when I turn the unit off and it cools down you can literally hear them cracking without even being touched. Some of them have also become warped due to the heat and don't stack on top of each other properly any more. It doesn't heat evenly, mine gets hotter on the left hand side so I have to keep rotating the trays every hour or so, a thermostat would have been a cheap and simple addition. But for £50 I suppose it does do the job it is intended for, just not in a very user friendly way

I was generally really pleased with my purchase, a godsend when I've got a glut of fruit, but sadly I'm very disappointed with the trays/racks as they have become very brittle and are separating from the main outer rim.

I had hoped for better from this - I bought it as a birthday gift for my Dad to use with his gluts of allotment produce. It takes forever to dehydrate basic items even when following instructions and has burnt 2 batches of produce so they had to be thrown away. Smaller items fall through the holes in the trays as they dry and the drying process isn't even. Such a great idea but unfortunately it just doesn't deliver.

. very disappointed !!”
I have wanted a food dehydrator for a long time and eventually bought one. I have found that it takes forever to dehydrate the food and when it is done it is not what I expected. The smell of the fruit whilst it is in use is not particularly pleasant. In my view a complete waste of my money. I will buy fruit already done. I will not be in a rush to buy another different new gadget

Melted within a few months of use”
by Ms Barr
We received this dehydrator as a Christmas present and were using it about once a week, with great results. However, recently, the plastic dehydrator shelves melted and warped, which was extremely alarming from a food safety perspective and Lakeland have not provided a good explanation for this. I wouldn't recommend purchasing this product at all!

Had my doubts about this, as I had read a number of negative reviews. However, it's fantastic! My 3 children avoided eating fruits.. No more!! I purchased it from Meadowhall branch, where I was told I could return it, under their lifetime guarantee, if I was not satisfied... So nothing to lose I thought!! I don't know the running costs, but the health benefits are worth it I think... Most of the dried fruits on the market have added sugars, adding to calories!! I am more than pleased with the results!!!

Wish I had one of these years ago. I have dried chillis, parsley (yes still growing in my garden!) rosemary, onion rings, apple, pineapple, mango, papaya and various other fruits, still have to master bananas though I can't seem to get them right.

Healthy money saving device”
by Paddy Earp
I bought it mainly to dry fruit and banana chips are especially easy, but I've tried most fruit. I've found it extremely useful for drying tomatoes, before bottling them in oil and for making my own ground/crushed chillies in oil. It is worth experimenting with anything really, and if you overdo something, it makes it crispy, as opposed to chewy! I'm always on the look out for fruit that has already been prepared and reduced in price too. It's not a cheap machine, but family & friends use it also. It will certainly pay for itself and it saves me money too.

wants needs and dissapointment”
ive wanted one of these for so long now and jumped at the chance to own one. sadly this unit is a bit useless. it does the job unevenly and badly. the tray holes are far too big for anything. it takes forever and uses a lot of electricity to do so. herbs are quick but everything falls through the trays so you end up with a lovely mixture. i also think that the trays themselves wont last long if you are not very careful, really verging on useless, shame really.
