I have used a different make of small deep fat fryer for years. I was really disappointed with the booklet supplied with this item. It gives you ideal temperatures for cooking various food but doesn't give you any idea of timing. My first try was with two Scotch Eggs - I started off with a temperature of 170 and then decided to up the temperature to 200 as nothing seemed to be happening. Chips it said 200 well mine looked cooked but on turning out on the plate were almost cooked and really soggy. Not impressed. Will keep trying as I like the design of the fryer.

Very handy little fryer”
by Mr Smith
Very compact and ideal for one or two portions and it takes up little space. I don't understand the problems others have had with the basket handle, as it seems very sturdy when properly fitted and also folds away when not in use. The fryer is small and light and the dual handles make it easy to pour out the oil after use. My only criticism is the basket hook, which won't let the basket fully lower into the oil in the down position and when lifted to the "drain" position still dips in the oil. Needs a design tweak! Other than this, a great little product and good value.

Watched the video and went all way to Bath to purchase this fryer. After unpacking I had an awful lot of trouble fixing the handle, then realised it just sticks out in the way instead of folding down after cooking, then the lid does not fit properly. I cut thin chips but they cooked on the outside but not right through. Cant get back to Bath so do not know what to do. Thirty years of buying fryers this is the worst.

Lakeland Compact Deep Fat Fryer.”
Very neat and convenient fryer if only it would work. My first one was a little cool at the 130 degree setting (about 5 degrees) but I could live with that. However at the 200 degree end, necessary for crisping up chips, the oil couldn't be heated above 180 degrees so I returned the fryer to Lakeland for a replacement on the assumption that it had a faulty thermostat. When the second one arrived I immediately tested it against a certified thermometer only to discover that this one was even cooler at the 130 degree end and couldn't even reach 175 degrees at the hot end. No use at all.

A note from the team: We're sorry to hear the compact fryer has not performed well. Our buying team have tested this product and at 200 degrees (max) using the infared thermometer they achieved 192.8 degrees and just 189.5 degrees with a probe. We'll continue to test and thank you for discussing this with us today - we hope the alternative fryer you chose works well.

Flawed, esp when compared to other makes that look the same. The handle clips in an falls off when you try to serve the food, often resulting in chips and a hot pan falling on the floor/side. The chip pan also fits on the side and does not provide much depth in the oil. Sadly the fryer is not much use and very disappointing for a lakeland product. I have tried to like it but wish i have gone for a rival product.

excellent little fryer that's ideal for one person”
by Mr Audus
bought this purely because it was small and seemed robust and it doesn't disappoint. I read the reviews before purchasing and noted the comments, but I can't see what the fuss is about. the comments about "cool wall" are noted, but you can't expect something to be cool on the outside with 200 degrees of oil on the inside unless it's made out of carbon fibre or similar and you're not going to get that for £36!! yes the outside of the fryer is warm but it won't burn you and it certainly is hot inside. the pictures and directions for fixing the arm are, as previously mentioned, a

Reading the past reviews of this product highlighted some minor criticisms. One said that the handle was insecure allowing the basket to swing. This handle was obviously not fitted correctly. It does however require some thought to fit it properly as it is not very clear in the instructions. Another said that the lid did not fit properly with the basket in place. This is also not the case if the basket is positioned correctly. This fryer is compact, looks good and cooks beautifully. The handle can removed, or partially unclipped and folded into the basket, for storage.Truly a little cooking Gem

Brilliant piece of kit”
Yes, as mentioned by A.N.Other, the outer case does get hot, but not such that you would be in danger of burning yourself. Yes, the handle is a bit fiddly to remove, but perfectly secure so long as you do not squeeze the handle when pouring the contents of the basket. The fryer works very well producing perfectly fried chips with enough capacity for two reasonable adult portions. Can't fault it, it's great value and does what it says on the box.

Ideal for 2”
Size&speed of heating excellent. Makes 2 standard portions of chips.Deducted 1* as handle very fiddly and 1* as would be helpful if user booklet gave more detailed cooking tips. Tasty chips but can someone advise how to 'crisp' them up?

Another star from Lakeland”
by Mrs Bland
This little beauty arrived a couple of days ago, chips for tea on two days! The fryer does exactly what it says on the tin perfectly, chips are just right, crisp on the outside and fluffy inside. Excellent product.

Excellent for indulgence”
On those occasions when only 'proper' chips will do, this fryer is excellent and I always manage to cook great chips, whether from fresh potatoes or frozen. The only drawback is limiting using it to around once a week.

The handle of the basket is of no use at all and isn't very safe when you are working with hot fat. The basket doesn't sit inside the fryer while cooking, so the amount of food you can cook is very limited.Great wee fryer apart from the basket. I do not think i will be using this again after burning my arm last week.

Does exactly what it should!”
by Mrs Cook
We'd been looking for a compact deep fat fryer for a while- nothing we'd seen was up to the mark. We wanted to be able to put it away in a cupboard when it wasn't in use - and basically use it for a couple of portions of good old home made chips once in a while. This little fryer does just what it should. It makes two portions of perfect chips, is nice and compact and is very easy to clean. The temperature gauge, though simple, seems accurate enough and the handle is fine (and comes off easily for storage). We can't fault it. Once again Lakeland has just the right product!

Great little fryer but take care”
I love my fryer as it heats quickly and takes 1ltr oil only. The lid is great at filtering the steam and the huge handle at one end helps immensely when it comes to pouring out the oil. The only flaw is the handle that is tricky to attach and is not a lot of use when tipping contents out of the basket as it tends to swing. Took me a bit by surprise the 1st time that happened and your instinct is to grab with your free hand! I use tongs to steady the basket with one hand whilst holding the handle in the other. Maybe a future edition could have a handle that clips on like some saucepans do.

A note from the team: Thanks for your idea for a clip on handle. We'll be sure to pass this to our buyers to consider for the future.
Does what it's supposed to”
Great little fryer for a couple of small portions of chips. Doesn't take up too much room or use much oil, and while not exactly cool walled is not too hot either. Quick to heat, you can have a portion of chips on the table in 10 minutes. We're very pleased with it.

For some time now I have been hunting for a small Deep Fat Fryer that meets my needs.ie Small for weight and easy storage. Low capacity of oil for economy. Easy to clean. All these because I live alone and have arthritis in my hands. Over the past couple or years I have looked at, and tried several makes and designs. Up to now none have met my requirements...But this model is almost perfect, I cant really fault it so far.. I have used it several times since I purchased it and every time I have had as good as a result as I could possibly expect.. LAKELAND thank you for a very good product.

The perfect answer for occasional fries”
by Helen Grogan
Some years ago I owned a large deep fat fryer but it was difficult to clean and used 3l oil so it was rarely used. Healthy eating meant that it was confined to the cupboard and it ended up at a car boot sale. Occasionally I need to fry a few items and a pan is too shallow so I have been looking for a small, easy to clean fryer and naturally Lakeland had the perfect answer. It sits neatly on the worktop and hardly takes up any space, is easy to clean and heats up quickly. I would have given it 5 stars but the glass lid does not sit correctly and could easily be knocked off.

Useful, but flawed”
by Michael Lawton
This is a neat and useful product but, as a previous reviewer has written, its lid is easily dislodged, especially when moving for storage etc. The thermostat is somewhat inaccurate as the 2 models I have had have both failed to reach 200c. Further, it is described both in the catalogue and on the website as 'cool walled'. I would certainly question this from my experience of painfully touching the sides! Interestingly the handbook includes the following '...use handles or knobs only, do not touch hot surface'. Also the handbooks description of how to attach the handle to the basket is of no help even with 3 pictures. Don't be put off by my comments just be aware of them when you purchase - we will be keeping and using this neat little fryer. Both my wife and I love Lakeland and its products so I am a little saddened by this experience.
