Disappointingby Mary

3 stars out of 5

Digital Thermometer

I think some of the reviews are a little unfair. This works perfectly for roasts if you understand the poor instructions. I am disappointed that the display on mine has suddenly failed. As others have reported the same thing, I have retrieved mine from the bin and am going to take it back to the store.

Started off well but now reads nonsensical temperaturesby Marion

Digital Thermometer

This worked well to begin with, but having used it a number of times (over a few years) I am experiencing the same issues as others report: the temperature fluctuates wildly, telling me liquid is 20C one second and 50C the next. I have replaced the battery but still seeing the same issue. I really want a digital thermometer, but won't buy another one of this as a replacement. Lakeland - sort out your products - people have been complaining about this model for ages. Maybe time to introduce a new model to the range?

Very Poor Qualityby Mr Bayliss

1 stars out of 5

Digital Thermometer

A few days after getting this, digits from the clock/timer started to fade out, you had to squeeze the top to get them back. I stuck with it because the thermometer worked fine and seemed to be accurate. After a while even that started to miss function displaying erratic low temperature measurements so consigned to the bin. Replaced with one from that well known online retailer, less money and much better quality! Come on Lakeland, this is not the type of product that you want to be selling to your customers!

Disappointing Christmas presentby jane

Digital Thermometer

I was so disappointed that this thermometer didn't work accurately - I had to abandon my first attempt at cheese making because the temperature shown for the milk was clearly incorrect plus the temperature was moving up and down randomly. A charming shop assistant gave me a refund and suggested I write a review accordingly and I now see that I'm not alone with this problem. It should really be rated 0 stars as it does not do the job it was made to do.

We can appreciate your reluctance to give this product any star rating at all but must explain that if we had a zero grading it would not have an effect on the overall average star rating shown below the product name on the web page. Customers who rate with a one star will have an effect as it brings the average down and means your opinion counts, We hope that makes sense.

Brillant and readout is magnetic too!by Roger

It is well made, the probe is a metre long and the base unit is magnetic. I checked it against a calibrated glass thermometer and it was perfect. Highly recommended.

Excellent - if yours is faulty take it back!by Julie

Digital Thermometer

The first one I bought was faulty, as always Lakeland replaced without question. To all those who have written negative reviews.....you should have gone back. This is not a Lakeland own brand product and it looks like maybe there was a faulty batch. The one I have now is excellent - would not be without it!

takes guess work out of roastsby Raj

4 stars out of 5

Digital Thermometer

Great device for perfectly cooked roasts. It does take around ten seconds to get to temperature, so can be an issue if you're trying not to overcook a steak. The first one I had started to malfunction after only a couple of months, but Lakeland exchanged it even without a receipt. Like other users, I couldn't get the probe to fit through the pan clip

Had two, both faulty.by Liz

Digital Thermometer

My hubby bought me one of these for my birthday last January. It's such a good idea with the long cable, but it just doesn't work. The first one was ok (not great, never consistant) at first, but when I did a test and it was showing boiling water as 80°c-odd it had to be returned. Lakeland were fab and replaced the item even though it was now a year old, however the new one which is a few months old is now reading the ambient room temperature as around 115°c. I won't be bothering with a replacement this time as two in a row is not coincidence, it's poor manufacture.

Really Disappointedby Cate

Digital Thermometer

I have made jam for the last five years and have been looking and looking for a thermometer that works. I was happy with the way this little thermometer looked but I'm afraid from the very beginning it has not worked. I blamed myself because it is probably not suitable for jam making. My jam should reach 105c but this thermometer shows a reading of 198c even when I have just put it into the jam. Still using the old fashioned jam thermometer that gran used only problem it is marked in Fahrenheit and therefore it has to be 221f and is difficult to read when things get really hot.

faulty thermometerby Mark

Digital Thermometer

Very very complicated. Instructions pretty useless. Used a couple of times and temperature swung wildly from one extreme to another. Lakeland customer service excellent as usual and replaced faulty item without a fuss and quickly. The replacement did exactly the same thing. Could not be relied on at all. Have now had a refund but disappointed that Lakeland are still advertising and selling this item especially after reading similar reviews of the same problem. Withdraw the thermometer, it does not work!! Only gave one star because I cannot give it zero!

Good item. Does a lot, limited instructionsby Peter

4 stars out of 5

Digital Thermometer

Seemed logical to check temp inside the meat, with also versatility to temps in liquids so a probe was my choice but I felt the instructions needed more. The item is doing all it said it would, with accuracy. I have to say I had to focus well on the instructions and re read with also oven calibration for pastries but the effort is worth it and no more underdone or over cooked meats.

dissappointedby Patricia Ann Davies

I recently purchased the tools required to make soft cheese. Including the digital thermometer as I guess this is an essential part of the process. I have just completed my first attempt, by making soft cheese. What a dissappointment the thermometer turned out to be. Hopeless. I paniced when the alarm didn't do off and rushed to use my jam making thermometer instead. Probably a bit too late. We will see! I sort help from hubby this morning to show me how to use it but even though he is a wizz at this sort of thing, he was left in the same dilemma as me. Not fit for purpose. Will return it.

Jam Makingby Janet

5 stars out of 5

Digital Thermometer

I love making jam but find the setting point hard to achieve but this device has solved all my problems. I had doubts reading some of the reviews but I am so glad that I bought this as it has made well set jam at the first attempt. I also bought the silicone spatula and the two were in agreement at the critical times. I was very impressed with both of them.

the only one you will ever needby Pauline

Digital Thermometer

this is without doubt the best oven thermometer I have ever owned, and i've owned a few. I agree the instructions can be a bit baffling at first but you soon get the hang of it when actually using it. Having said that, I still can't manage the oven temp test! I have found I use it all the time, not just for cooking in the oven when having the probe in the joint etc beeping when reaching temp but I use it for reheating foods and use the probe to test they are reheated to the correct temp in the middle. I did have reservations at buying this due to the price but it is well worth it.

Manufacturing Problem?by Mrs Girling

2 stars out of 5

Digital Thermometer

I've found this to be an incredibly useful thermometer but for the second time now the product has failed and Lakeland are sending me a replacement. I suspect that the cable is not as robust as it should be. After months of good service the probe temperature started to fluctuate wildly whilst cooking a roast, changing each second, with temperatures ranging by up to 20 degrees. Lakeland's customer service is excellent, but I do feel that the issues that several customers have had need to be resolved with the manufacturer.

Still not convincedby debbie oliver

I used this to cook my xmas turkey and produced the best turkey ever so I was completed convinced by this product, however I recently used it to cook a joint of beef to medium rare. Set it to the temp suggested but my beef was very well done. A recent chicken was still raw when it reached the suggested temp so still not sure it is worth using

Disappointing productby Mrs Mary McGrory

2 stars out of 5

Digital Thermometer

I have had this meat thermometer for about 5 months now. When I first took it out of the packet it seemed rather over-complicated for what I want and the instructions were poorly written. That having been said, I persevered and was able to work out how to set the temperature that I wanted my meat to reach (this being the only function I was interested in) and I found that my meat was cooked to perfection. I have probably used it about 10 times in the intervening months and it has now stopped working completely - according to the thermometer the internal temperature in my house is currently 180c!

Poor quality buildby Mr Immins

1 stars out of 5

Digital Thermometer

I bought of these to measure the temperature of water when making beer, so it never went higher than 100C, which its then held at for an hour, then 30 mins as it cools down. After 3 goes, it started telling my the ambient temperature in my house was 75C! So, I got it replaced, and have used the new one again for 5 uses and the same thing has happened. Though its just 55C in my house now.

A note from the team: Thanks for your review. Our buyers have looked at this and think the products must be faulty, we're sorry for the inconvenience. Our supplier has confirmed that the accuracy should be +/- 2 degrees, although at the extremes of temperature this can be a little higher. Broke after a few monthsby Mr Dyke

2 stars out of 5

Digital Thermometer

I bought this item about 6 months ago. I am technically minded and I had no problem understanding it, the instuctions aren't perfect but it didn't take a lot of playing to get it going. Sadly as I cooked a meal a couple of weeks ago I was confused that after an hour and a half, when I expected it to be cooked the thermometer was reading about 30 degrees. I trusted the thermometer and not my instinct and ended up with a burnt roast. I would have expected this product to last longer than 3 months, sadly it now reads temperatures at random, flicks between 4 and 70 degrees.
