ABSOLUTE RUBBISHby Sian

1 stars out of 5

Pastry Brush

Bought to supplement a pastry brush which I have used without problem for 35 years. Started shedding hairs straight away. Constantly having to pick bristles out when preparing food. 3 months after purchase have just binned following total disintegration. Gave it 1star because 0star not an option. Waste of money - Do not buy!!

Dissapointedby Mrs Lister

I have always liked Lakeland products and recommended them to other people but i am afraid this pastry brush is really not fit for purpose, the bristles started to fall out from the very first moment of use whilst egg washing pastry, so very dissapointed with this product. It gets one star only because i cannot submit this review without doing so.

Wish I had read the reviewsby Susan

Pastry Brush

Bought this in store last week to use at Christmas. It is useless - hairs fell out all over the place and I had to stop using it. Unfortunately I had thrown away the receipt so no refund available. I usually reckon that things bought from Lakeland will work properly, but I was obviously wrong on this one!

How did this pass the 'tug test'?by Sue

I washed this before use & a few bristles fell out. It lost more bristles on the first use (to glaze a cake with apricot jam) & even more when drying it (by gently rubbing with a tea towel) after washing. Not at all impressed.

Hairy cakes anyone?!by Miss Ayres

I also bought this to be used with the cake release product found on another page. Unfortunately, I've used it only twice now, and I spend more of my time picking up loose bristles, than if I used my own hands to rub the cake release around the cake pans myself - I thought the point of the brush was so I didn't get greasy hands? I've also ended up with brush hairs I've missed being cooked on to the bottom of cakes! I think I'll be looking in to getting a silicone version instead now. Disappointing quality from what seems like a classic product design.

It was very handy for painting honey onto my roasted chickens, but it did have a tendency to shed like a cat. Did not make for edible skin.

Hopeless...by Ms Julia Levy

I bought this especially to use with cake release and i spend more time picking bristles off the tin surface afterwards than i do making cakes. It does the job perfectly and if it didn't lose dozens of bristles each time would be wonderful.

Lost bristles after 2 or 3 usesby Mr Silverstein

A total waste of money! The glue used on these is poor - it softens in warm water and, if the brush is used for warm, sticky glazes like honey that do not wash out if rinsed cold, makes it impossible to clean them properly. After a very few uses, the bristle pad came out completely. I had to replace 2 of these with the silicone alternatives, which are less effective but do not lose their 'bristles'. Definitely not recommended!

... for losing hairs! Recently used this to grease the inside of the pirate ship cake mold; however the cake came out looking like a porcupine pirate ship there were that many spikes on it!!! Have had to resort to purchasing the bristle-less pastry brush in order to avoid a repeat :o(

I have used my pastry brush regularly for over a year now, and it has yet to lose a single bristle. Excellent price for the quality.

Hmmm, bit dissapointed with this brush as I have found it to molt. I'll have to bite the bullet and purchase one of those silicon things... which I didn't want to do as I hate plastic things!
