Good instructions make this easy to produce tasty kefir
I've had my kit for 3 years now. I've learnt that 'room temperature' in NZ (where the kit comes from) is way warmer than in the UK. Make the kefir in a warm place like an airing cupboard. Saving one-third of a cup rather than a quarter of a cup to make the next batch, meant the kefir stayed creamy and I got 7 or 8 batches from the original one. I bought a second glass jar and mixing ball online so that I could start a new batch without having to finish all of the first one. Whole milk worked better than semi-skimmed, making a smoother, creamer kefir.
Pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to make Kefir. First time I used whole milk and sachet.Agree that shaking the jar it does leak I put the jar in the airing cupboard and approx 12.hrs later it was a wobbly set.(It doesn't set firm like yoghurt)Tasted excellent. The second batch I made using half whole and half semi skimmed milk - total 750ml and the recommended quantity of my already made kefir one quarter of a cup.It set to the correct consistency and tasted delicious. I was able to use my kefir starter at least 4 times to remake the kefir. Its so quick and easy to make.Tastes really good
Bought this some time ago, so may be using older version. I've now used 4 sachets (making up to 5 lots per sachets). The kefir is delicious, using skimmed milk. But not only is the lid inclined to leak unless one is very careful, the white coating on the metal lid is coming off at the rim where it can come into contact with the kefir itself. I'm not sure this is safe (bits of coating getting in the kefir?) and it certainly shouldn't be happening so quickly..
We're sorry this happened. We're glad we were able to send you a replacement which we trust will be satisfactory.
The instructions were limited to the point of being unhelpful. A search of the Mad Millie website gave a little more assistance but was not that much of an improvement. My first attempt was awful, but a second batch of Kefir was better.
