Waste of moneyby Coker

Self-Watering Herb Pot

I bought this a few months ago and planted four herbs in it and they all dried up. I took it apart and tried to see how the water could rise up the capillary mechanism. No way can it water the herbs- a very poor design. I took it out today to try again, unsuccessfully. A complete waste of money but too late to return. This should not be sold.

A note from the team: Thanks for placing your review. We're sorry the Herb Pot hasn't worked as expected. We'll be in touch shortly to help. - It is recommended before inserting the inner green pots, pour water into the reservoir ensuring the capillary mat is thoroughly soaked. Keep the pot in a well lit position, away from cold draughts but not in summer sun.

Self-Watering Herb Pot

I recently bought this, but now wish I had read the reviews first! Looks great, but doesn't work nearly as well as I had hoped and I still find myself having to water the plants. I also wish it had been shaped to take the square pots that are sold in the supermarkets (as growing plants) as these are so readily available. Not often disappointed with a Lakeland product!

Self-Watering Herb Pot

Product looks to be the fab quality you would expect from Lakeland product but it doesnt seem to draw the water up to the plants. I'm baffled as to how it 'self waters' as my plants all have to be watered from above as normal.

Self-Watering Herb Pot

I bought 3 of these pots for my herbs. I am very disappointed as the pots dry out very quickly. I have followed all the instructions even making sure the soil and roots are pushed to the base of the pot. I bought these pots as I live in Spain and self watering pots seemed an excellent idea. It is a shame they do not work.

Dry Herbs!by Mrs Fildes

Self-Watering Herb Pot

Sorry Lakeland - not many of your products disappoint me - in fact hardly any, but I'm afraid this one does. My plants have dried up even though I followed the instructions to the letter and the saucer remains full of water,(overflowing in fact, which is a nuisance) my plants have died. I would have arranged to return this, but so confident was I, that I discarded the packaging as soon as I had set it up. Looks great, but not for long, nothing looks good with dead plants in it. Sorry.

A note from the team: Thanks for taking the time to write your review, I'm sorry to learn of the problems you've had. I'll be in touch shortly to help. Hints & tips - When potting the herb into the inner green pockets the root ball must be pushed right down to ensure it is tight up to the underlying capillary mat (which draws up the water). Also the Capillary mat needs to be wetted before use. Water through the central gap down the plastic spine this ensures the mat retains moisture.

Does not workby Ms Reynolds

Self-Watering Herb Pot

This is a great idea and I thought would solve the problem of my herbs drying out. Despite following the instructions, this product just does not do what it claims. I am having to water the pots constantly despite keeping the resovoir filled. The absorbent tapes just don't seem to be sufficient to keep the soil moist enough. Also, when the individual pots are removed they do not stand up on their own and have to be leaned against something else. It looks good on the worktop and has been admired in my kitchen by other people but simply does not work.

Self-Watering Herb Pot

I bought this thinking it would be a great way to grow herbs on my windowsill, but have had to give up after several failures. The whole idea of the plants being able to suck up the water just doesn't work, even with the reservoir full to overflowing the plants are bone dry. Such a shame as I usually love Lakeland products, wouldn't recommend this one at all.

It works - and it works well!by Caroline

Self-Watering Herb Pot

I have absolutely no complaints at all about this product. I read the instructions, and filled 3 of the 4 pots with growing mint 2 weeks ago, I haven't watered it since and the soil is still moist. It works really well and looks funky too (which is the reason I bought it, I assumed it's watering feature wouldn't work after reading the other reviews). I suspect the problem other people had is they didn't press the soil down to make it air-tight. I love it and would highly recommend it to others!

I purchased two of these herb pots, one for myself and one for my son. Unfortunately even though there is plenty of water in the reservoir the plants are not able to get enough moisture with out taking the pots out and soaking them. This defeats the object of buying the self watering pots to keep my herbs watered while away at the weekend. My son is also disappointed as he is busy with his job and loves to come home a cook with fresh herbs.

Self-Watering Herb Pot

When I saw this I thought it would be the answer to the problem of herbs in my kitchen, keeping them all in the same place and watering them automatically, stopping me under/over watering them. However, though it looks good, I'm still having to take the herb pots out and plunge them into water to keep them sufficiently damp to keep them alive, this is despite there being plenty of water in the reservoir. I can't fault the looks of it, but couldn't recommend it.
