“Works a treat!

Even though there are poor reviews on the Lakeland site those on another supplier were good. I bought here because it was cheaper!
Referring to the problems highlighted in other reviews I found that:
- it turns the compost easily (just give it a 45-90 degree turn before pulling out and it grabs the compost easily).
- no sign of it falling apart - perhaps I got the nuts tighter but still only done up by hand.
- OK it doesn't quite get to the bottom of the bin but that's where the compost has been in longest so will rot for longer.
All in all a good buy!

“Did not work for me

This tool did not work. Firstly, it is too short. My composter is approximately a third full. To get the tool into the compost, I had to get the handle through the top of the bin which is not wide enough. Secondly, when I did get the tool into the compost and twisted it, the 'claws' at the bottom remained closed. This is no more effective than pushing a pole into the compost and withdrawing it again. Sorry Lakeland, on this occasion, I was not happy with the product.

“Just a little too short!

My husband ordered this as it was a good price and looked just the tool he needed. However he has noticed 2 details which would improve it. If it was just a inch longer it would reach right down the bottom of the compost bin without the handle catching on the top of the bin, and also if it was fixed together with nylon gip nuts instead of wing nuts it wouldn't keep coming undone.
