I bought this product, despite the reviews, as my mother needed something to stop her (many) rugs slipping all over the place on her hard floors. I sent it to her, and asked her to let me know if it didn't work as I would get my money back.
I went to see her this weekend, and the first thing she did was drag me into her hallway to show me her rugs. She was SO pleased, the tape worked perfectly. She was demosnstrating how well it worked by charging at the rugs and trying to get them to shift, but they wouldn't budge. It was a bit disconcerting to see my 67 year old mother taking a run at the rugs, followed by doing lots of feet shuffling; I had a job to stop her demonstrating the tape's success on *all* the rugs in the house, there's only so much of seeing-a -rug-stay-in-place that a person can stand. She went on to get the dog to demonstrate as well, the dog used to end up sliding round a corner on one of the rugs, but not any more. Not sure how the dog feels about that, I think she misses being able to slide down the hall on a slippy rug. Anyway. What I want to say is that, when using this on a solid (tiled) floor, it works brilliantly and I highly recommend it.

I bought this product with a bit of trepidation because some of the reviews were less than complimentary. We needed to protect the carpet in our caravan from muddy/wet footprints, so bought some small rubber backed mats. These were really annoying as they 'walked' all over the place. Since attaching the grippa tape to the back of the mats they haven't moved an inch. We're very happy with this product.

Unlike your other reviews I have found this to be the best one of many I have tried. It even keeps a well used rug with a rubber backing on it attached to the carpet underneath - the first time this rug has not wrinkled up in the last two years!
