Great Lookby Wendy

White Compost Crock

I purchased this bin about a year ago because my previous metal compost bin (also from Lakeland) had gone rusty after about 9 months. This pot works well and is easy to clean. However, our council kindly provides liners for our compost bins, which I of course use. This then creates a problem. Around the rim of the pot is a protruding lip, which has a habit of tearing the bags as you remove them. This rim makes the 'exit hole' slightly smaller than the rest of the pot, which means you have to squeeze the contents past it - not its best design feature!! I often end up having to double bag.

lovely, but needs refiningby Catherine

White Compost Crock

I love it and it looks great on the work top, but.... I wish that they had put an inner bin inside, so I don't have to see the food recycling bag around the edge. We've made our own inner tube to hide the bag, but lakeland should be offering it with one. On a plus note, the handle is very sturdy so it must have been redesigned following previous comments made about poor handles on an earlier version.

Exactly what we wantedby Mrs Speller

White Compost Crock

I had been looking for a smart kitchen caddy for sometime - this was exactly as I'd hoped. I would recommend putting some felt protectors on the bottom though as it can scratch the worktop but great that it is dishwasher proof and looks smart tucked in the corner on the side.

Had it years, recently cracked ++ due to heavy-handedness!by Linda Davis

White Compost Crock

Ours lasted 6 or 7 years. I'm a accident prone, so we abandoned the lid. It developing cracks very recently due to my heavy-handed banging of dishes and pots on the rim! A piece of cardboard in the bottom soaks up fluids and enables easy emptying. I dry it with a damp eco-cloth. No mould. Washing it is easy by hand after emptying the compost into a paper bag. I dry it with a damp eco-cloth, & mould has been no problem. I put a piece of cardboard on the bottom to absorb moisture and enable easy emptying. Nothing could match this one, and I look forward to a new crock, same again.

Looks nice on my worktop. Very stylish and certainly a whole lot better than the brown plastic council supplied one!

White Compost Crock

I've had this crock at least 2 years and we use it all the time. One of the first things I did was take off the metal handle, because I could see it wasn't going to stay on. I started out using the filters but don't bother anymore, and don't have any problems with smells. I like the fact that it washes up easily in the dishwasher and that I can buy another lid from Lakeland if I ever need to!

White Compost Crock

We live in married quarters, where we are unable to have a compost heap, but we have our own cottage with a composter that we visit every other weekend. I needed something to store and transport my compost in between cottage visits, so I bought this 6 mths ago. I have not yet needed to change the filter, but I have no smells or flies, despite some food sitting in the crock for up to 2 weeks. The handle is a little loose, but has only ever come off when I am washing the crock out. This was a best buy for me.

Am Lost Without It!by Mrs Jeal

White Compost Crock

I bought this composter many years ago and have religiously used it to compost everything; raw meat, cooked foods, teabags, eggshells, peelings. It's very robust (if a little heavy) but even when it got a crack in the side a year or so ago, never gave off any horrid smells, nor attracted any unwanted insects during hot weather. I love my little crock and a few days ago my husband knocked it off the drainer - I am bereft! I am ordering another today! A handy tip: Put a couple of sheets of kitchen roll in the bottom before filling and then nothing gets stuck in the bottom when emptying.

Lovely except for the handleby Mrs Marshall

White Compost Crock

This looks great and is a very convenient size. I generally really like the product but the handle falls off very frequently. This means it feels risky to carry around or wash up, and, considering the price, is quite a substantial downside. I do find the filter in the lid to be excellent - it really does not get smelly - and the bin looks very attractive. It's just a shame that the handle does not fit a bit more securely.

Loved it, but...by Kate Gordon

White Compost Crock

I think this seems to have a common problem - the lid! A beautiful crock and I have had no issues with escaping smells etc, but the lid is VERY fragile. I have glued it back together several times, but unfortunately the lid is now sitting on my worktop, broken, yet again. I'll repair it as best I can, as I can't find a replacement that I actually like, but know it's only a matter of time before it will break again. Such a shame!

White Compost Crock

Initially, this was a great product. Didn't take up hardly and room or look out of place in my utility room but unfortunately, I have had the same problem as the previous lady and both the lid and crock cracked after going in the dishwasher. I'm now going to purchase the plastic caddy instead.

Fantastic - much better than previous caddies I have owned. I will be carefull with the handle/lid ! I went away for a week and the family "forgot" to empty it - no nasty smells , brilliant, and very easy to wash up too.

Like everyone here, have found it to be a useful thing and it looks quite smart on the windowsill - but I never or rarely use the handle because I don't have confidence in it!

compost crock - my worktop friendby Mrs Lawrie

5 stars out of 5

White Compost Crock

This is a lovely item for the kitchen - looks attractive and sits firmly on the worktop. It is easy to clean and is odour free. The handle can work its way loose and I dont want to break this lovely item so i have got into the habit of always checking the handle before lifting it. It quickly gets full if you are a large family, however a bigger one wouldn't look as discreet. I have bought a few of these as presents as I am that pleased with it.

Great Kitchen Compost Bin but.....by Rose

4 stars out of 5

White Compost Crock

I have had the white one of these for years, am on the second lid now as my son dropped the first one! It is a great product and I would like to get the black verson now as I think that looks very stylish and would match my kitchen better but it has one design flaw. The base of the pot is not glazed and is very rough - I think this would scratch the work top. I put some of the sticky felt under the edge of the first one but it looks a bit unsightly. Hopefully Lakeland will look at the design and maybe do something to solve this small issue.

White Compost Crock

I got this as a Christmas present, and loved it and so much better than a black plastic pot on the side having to empty it every day!! Until, carried it across the kitchen using the handle and it just smashed on the floor and i had the handle just left in my hand! Disappointed, so out comes the black plastic pot again as can't keep buying a new one. So if you buy one buy be careful whilst carrying it!

Lovely Product Shame about the Handleby Alison

White Compost Crock

It's a lovely pot and I decided to have another go when my first faulty handle cased me to drop it. I have had the second one a lot longer than the first but handle has let this one down again. I now have another broken pot. I will be changing to a metal one.

Disappointedby Karen

1 stars out of 5

White Compost Crock

My compost crock was absolutely fine until its first wash - thereafter it is constantly "hairy" with mould. I can only assume that it never dries out properly because of the unglazed areas - I really wish I had purchased an all metal one now.
