putting rubbish to good useby Mrs Shannon

5 stars out of 5

Compost Caddy

This is my second caddy - the first one met with a crashing end when I dropped it on the patio and cracked it. It became clear very quickly that a new one was needed pronto - you wouldn't realise just how much peelings, skins etc you recycle until you've got one of these wee bins. This one is a bit improved on the last one as it has a helping thumb tab to open and lift the lid which is useful when you have your hands full of stuff to drop in to it. This caddy needs emptied roughly once a week - we are a family of 5 so it saves on too many trips to the compost heap. To be honest I don't really bother with the carbon pads except in the summer when things go off much quicker and haven't noticed a whiff (or fruit flies). It sits in a little recess beside the chimney in our kitchen (it's an old cottage so lots of nooks and crannies). I wouldn't be without it.

Very satisfiedby Mrs Kirk

Compost Caddy

I have had my compost caddy for a couple of months now and I find it very useful. It holds a lot of waste which means I only have to empty it about once or twice a week. The filter has so far worked brilliantly and there is no smell at all. I have not had any problems with the lid or filter not fitting properly and am very glad that I bought this product.

Compost Caddy

I have three of these compost caddies at my place of work into which colleagues place their banana skins, tea bags, apple cores, orange peel etc. They are ideal and have presented none of the difficulties reported by other reviewers: the filter does not fall out, the lid fits tightly and the caddy is easily washable in a normal sink.

Compost Caddy

This is a very useful thing to have in the kitchen. Not as attractive as some other compost caddies, but it does the job. It holds loads of peelings etc, and never smells.

Fly problemby Mrs Clark

2 stars out of 5

Compost Caddy

No smells and the caddy has a good capacity. However, after a few days use, we start to get fruit flies (don't ask me where they come from!) and once the pesky blighters appear, there's no getting rid of them for ages. The problem is worse in the summer, but even in the winter, we still get flies... I love to recycle, but unfortunately, my compost caddy is in a cupboard out of use...

caddy lidby Mrs Ward

Must say the caddy you sold before this one has a much better fitting lid having bought that one for myself some years ago it is excellent. But this latest one I purchased for my daughter last year and she has now stopped using because of the lid.

Very Useful Caddyby Melanie Lawrie

Compost Caddy

I have had my caddy for a few weeks. It is the perfect size for the cupboard under my sink and it is doing a fantastic job at preventing odours. I was previously storing compostible waste in a standard bin lined with a carrier bag and I had to empty it frequently to prevent odours building up. So far the handle has been fine, although it does appear to be a little flimsy. I like this so much I am ordering another for my parents who are keen composters!

Not as good as it could beby Jeremy

Compost Caddy

My personal experience is that whilst the size is great, the filter holder is useless, the filters dont fit properly (too lose) and are prone to drop in/slouch. This leaves the Caddy open for 'fruit flies' to buzz around in the warmer months. Very annoying!

compost caddyby Mrs lowe

Compost Caddy

this is the only item that I have purchased off lakeland that I have been disappointed in. The handle is far too weak for the size of the item. I like to fill the caddy with hot water and soak it when I have emptied it but it is very difficult to empty because of the frail handle. Also the lid is loose from the bin which is very fiddly.

Wish it had a hinged lidby Mrs sharples

4 stars out of 5

Compost Caddy

This bin is fine. It's quite big and will take a lot of peelings so it sits on the kitchen floor. Obviously, after time of being taken down to the end of the garden it gets grubby. The problem is that the lid gets knocked off or you take it off when peeling and then it can just be on the floor and then this creates a bit of a hygene issue. A hinged lid to keep the whole thing together would be brilliant.

COMPOST BIN 20341by Michael Hendy

Compost Caddy

I entirely agree with another reviewer, this product is rubbish. We had the previous model for years. It was shorter and wider. It was only changed as the lid became loose. The new model lid is separate anyway, not sink or dishwasher friendly. We are now trying the tomato version received today.

What a load of rubbishby David King

1 stars out of 5

Compost Caddy

Had quite a job convincing my wife that this Compost Caddy would be a good idea but we relied on the quality of Lakeland. Firstly, it was too large to either fit on any shelf below or above the sink. Secondly, the lid did not fit firmly. Thirdly, as another reviewer mentioned, it cannot fit under the tap for washing and cleaning. Fourthly, it attracted fruit flies and other pests almost immediately so it went outside to be used ever since as a flowerpot! Waste of money.

I have had my compost caddy for at least two years now and it is still in good condition, it works really well, and keeps all the nasty smells under wraps. I wouldn't be without it...

To replace or not to replace?by Jeannie

3 stars out of 5

Compost Caddy

I bought both sizes of the compost caddy/carry some years ago. Within a year the (very flimsy) handle on the larger one broke, but I continued to use the bin by carrying the whole thing to the compost pile. The hinge on the lids also broke but this took several years. Despite these problems I do like the bins, but I am loath to replace them with another one whose handle is going to break. Have you yet improved the handle or is it still thin and unsuitable for carrying a full (and heavy) bin down the garden? Do you do replacement handles? If the handle has been improved I would definitely recommend this product.

I have had my caddy for several years, and I'm just off to get new filters for it. I added a simple knob to the lid of mine to make access easier.

This product is not up to the quality I have experienced with Lakeland over some 40 years. The caddy handles are very flimsy and the handles of both of the two caddies I purchased arrived broken.

Does the jobby Josie

Unlike other reviewers I haven't had any problems with the lid or the filter. Both fit snugly and the filter has definitely prevented odours escaping. It's only now after four months that there's a slight hum, which is why I thought I'd better order some replacement filters.

Compost caddy - good and bad!by patricia pollock

2 stars out of 5

Compost Caddy

I've had my compost caddy about a year - the good thing is it doesn't take up too much room in the kitchen, and I've had no problem with smells or flies (but neither did I when I loaded the bits into an open box that I emptied daily! ) I no longer buy the compstable liners as there isn't a Lakeland handy to me and really they just add to the cost of composting. First minus point - the carbon filters regularly drop out into the compost. To get over this I taped the filter in, and since then haven't bothered renewing it. Second minus point - the lid isn't joined on so you have to remove it, find somewhere to lay it down, then decant your peelings etc into the bin. Third minus point (this has really got to me this evening) the bin is about 2" too tall to fit under any of my taps! I have to rinse it out in the shower. Sorry Lakeland - most of your products I rave about but this one doesn't really do what I want it to do!

Works a Treatby Mrs Sewell

Hesitated to buy after reading reviews about problems with the filter. I contacted Lakeland and was assured that the problem has now been solved. I have now had my Caddy for several months and am really pleased with it and have had no problem with the filter at all. Amazing how it really keeps all smells at bay even garlic, not a hint of it! No mess either, the whole bag goes straight into my composter. Would recommend this Caddy to anyone. Thanks Lakeland.

Compost Caddyby Joyce

Compost Caddy

We have a very small kitchen, but this caddy is ideal for us. It sits neatly and we have no trouble with the lid or filter. (Try sellotaping the filter either side if it becomes loose). No smells, and it holds about a week's waste for two of us. Brilliant!!
