"Very disappointed"
I wanted to replace my rice steamer as the lid had cracked so bought this on the strength of its glowing reviews as my previous Lakeland microwave rice steamer was no longer available. The directions are dire and I have still not managed to cook a decent batch of rice. In fact, so disappointed am I that I have gone back to my old steamer.

It's sometimes best to turn to the true experts for assistance, Lakeland customers. We've sourced the feedback from several successful attempts which we hope will soon get you creating delicious fluffy rice. One person: For 1 person I used 1/2 a cup, (just over 100 ml) rice, and 300 ml cold water. With trial & error, found ideal cooking time = 12 mins + 5 mins standing. Nice sticky/fluffy rice. Instructions say have slots in lid 90 degrees from slots in pressure chamber lid. To avoid overflow, make slots in lid 45 degrees from slots in pressure chamber. Two person: The instructions are rather vague and finding your perfect quantity/cooking time is trial and error. For 2 modest portions, I am using 100g of rice, 200ml of water (I always double the water) and cook for 10 mins, stand for 2 Three - Four person: Instructions for cooking basmati rice: 1cup of rice - wash the rice in the container - changing the water at least 3 times. Remove as much excess water as you can tip out without losing the rice. Add 1 1/2 cups of water. Let it soak for 20 mins. Microwave for 8 minutes at 900W. Let it stand for a minute or two before serving. Use a plastic plate with handles under the container to catch the over spilled water. Also helps when removing hot items from the microwave oven. This amount can serve 3 to 4 people. I bag and freeze any leftovers to microwave another time. 4 Person: Always been dubious about cooking rice but followed the instructions. Mine is a 900w microwave and 250g rice + 600ml water + 12 mins - perfect 4 portions. Haven't tried brown rice yet but have noted the point to allow 23 mins. My Microwave is 1000 Watts - if your Microwave is a lower Wattage, you'll need to allow more cooking time.
