Sage™ Smart Scoop™ Ice Cream Maker
Perfection is possible… It takes a lot for an electrical appliance to stop us in our tracks, after all, hundreds have passed through our test kitchen over the years, but the entire Sage range did just that! We lost count of the ‘wows’ around the room as our Buyer, Carly, took each one through its paces and, as soon as we heard that the ultimate food thinker, Heston Blumenthal, was involved in the testing and production, we knew they would be something really special.
Heston wouldn’t put his name to anything less than perfection, and the combination of Sage’s design know-how and attention to detail means that with these innovative stainless steel appliances perfection is possible. Brand new to the UK, these high spec appliances are very simple to use with straight-forward controls and are incredibly impressive to see in action. The instructions come with hints and tips from Heston to help you make the most of your machine.
How do you get a perfect texture without watching over the mix? Some ice cream makers require constant supervision when making delicate sorbets, gelato or frozen yoghurts, and even creamy ice cream can become over churned… The Smart Scoop is the very first maker that automatically senses how hard the mixture is depending on your setting selection then keeps it at the right consistency for up to 3 hours. It even plays an ice cream van tune when it’s ready! Frozen desserts have never been so easy or delicious.
- Pre-set programmes for sorbet, gelato, frozen yoghurt and ice cream.
- 12 automatic hardness settings plus manual selection dial.
- Beep or ice cream van tune when ready.
- 1 litre ice cream bowl.
- 3 hour keep-cool setting.

Poor and disappointing” by Colin
My research suggested SAGE products were good and had good reviews: Positives: - good ice cream - ease to use Negatives - no recipe book - serious at this cost - tips - not worth talking about - sound is too quiet to hear - nothing of extra value compared to cheaper product -box fell apart Feel like I purchased it for the wrong reasons and I am very disappointed as for extra charged for a premium product, the only extra was the celebrity chef's name and two tips! Maybe if I was more into food I would understand the benefits!
A note from the team: We're sorry that the product has not met your expectations. Our buying team have sourced various recipes from Sage together with a more detailed & helpful instruction booklet which has a comprehensive tips and trouble shooting guide, these will be available on our website going forward. One of the features of the Sage Smart Scoop is the benefit of keeping the ice cream at the right consistency for up to 3 hours as well as the delicious end result when the chime sounds. We'll be in touch soon to help.
Terrible product not worth the money” by Kenny
The thing that attracted me to ths product is that it supposedly senses the consistency of the product. It doesn't so you still have to keep an eye on it. At this price you would expect something extraordinary but unfortunately you can get something similar for about £200 less. I also found that it took about 2.5 times longer to make gelato than my previous ice cream maker. Sage aren't helpful either, giving advice that goes against their instruction booklet, essentially blaming me for how I was using the machine. I wasn't impressed.
A note from the team: Thank you for placing your review and taking the time to discuss the problems you experienced. Our buying team have now tested your machine on various settings having cooled the ingredients prior to making the vanilla ice cream, frozen yogurt and lemon sorbet from the Sage recipes. They used the automatic function on the machine, and each result had a different texture - with the vanilla ice cream, they specifically made it quite soft, then switched the mix to hard, it churned for a further 5 or 10 minutes and there was a definite difference in the texture. It's sometimes difficult to replicate a problem a customer has experienced so we're sorry the results you got from the Sage Soft Scoop were not as expected. We do hope you find a suitable alternative.
Diet Plan Required !!!!!!” by Tracey
Couldn't be easier if it tried. I thought making ice cream in a machine would be a bit of a drag, how wrong could I be. Frozen yoghurts are easy too. Very easy to clean, and the music chimes at the end of preparation is so amusing. Can wait for a receipe book to be released. Very happy with my purchase.
