Create even slices of fruit or veg every time. Turn the dial to select one of three slice thicknesses and, using the protective holder, slide the food over the stainless steel blade – it’ll save you so much time and effort when preparing salads, tarte tatin, potato gratin or dauphinoise. With a comfortable non-slip handle and foot, you can sit it over a bowl or stand it upright on a chopping board and, when not in use, the food holder clips on to safely conceal the blade.

OXO Good Grips Mandoline Slicer

All I was looking for was something to slice my vegetables thin enough to help my addiction to potato and vegetable gratins after being unable to get them thin enough the manual way.
This is just GREAT! It's small enough to slip in one of my drawers without cluttering it up with extra blades, the hand guard works by keeping your pinkies away from the super sharp blade and grips even tomatoes and I love the fact you can choose the thickness, no more having to change over blades! It didn't slip when I used it over a bowl either and feels nice and sturdy. Also you can slide the blade to a "locked" position which is genius.
If all you are looking for a tool to slice your veg thinly (or thickly), quickly and safely then TADA! Here it is. Love, love

I just wanted to back up the other review - on whose recommendation I bought this mandolin - this mandolin is an excellent tool - does just what it says it will do easily and simply. And the safety lock is very simple and effective. I'm delighted with this
