Zyliss® Smart Guard Gourmet Mandoline
With safety in mind, Zyliss have created a mandoline that keeps fingers completely protected at all times. The key is the ‘spring lock’ system, the chunky food holder and the safety guard which clicks into place, only then can you begin slicing. A special track guides the food holder over the ‘V’ blades to give efficient and uniform slicing, a thickness selector offers versatility when slicing up to 6mm and two julienne inserts deftly prepare veg for salads, coleslaws and stir-fries. When not actually being used, the blade is safely concealed by the cover.

“Mandolines have very sharp blades so should be handled carefully. Here at Lakeland we only sell mandolines with a slider guard to hold the food in place whilst slicing and to ensure that fingers do not come into contact with the blades.
The secret for success is to let the mandoline do the work for you - move the slider up and down without applying pressure and in no time at all you will have sliced or shredded produce - applying pressure can cause your food to jam in the blade.

Zyliss® Smart Guard Gourmet Mandoline
Couldn't wait to try this when it arrived yesterday. Wonderful. I have used a Borner V slicer for years almost daily. Great for slicing, but not for julienne carrots. This one is great. Partly due to the great food holder and fixed slide cover. Would highly recommend. The only thing a found slightly difficut was changing the runway when putting in the julienne blade. Felt I was forcing it in place by pushing inwards near the thickness knob. It is much safer than other mandolines because of the safety guard etc. Will now buy one for my sister-in-law.

I've just bought a food dehydrator, so having uniformly sliced produce is suddenly quite important. I chose the Zyliss mandoline as it looked good enough quality for my needs. The 1st time I used it, the fold out leg bent the plastic that supports it, & broke it completely on the 2nd time of use. I also found that the slicing runway is not sufficiently rigid at its pointed end; if you need to push down to slice harder products, it causes the runway to flex, giving uneven slices. The dial to change slicing thickness also moves while slicing, again causing uneveness. Sorry, it's going back.
