Victoria `Surprise` Spongeby Jan Bolton

5 stars out of 5

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

Hi, I`m really pleased with this product. Like another poster, I think the details supplied by SIlverwood need to be improved as they are quite misleading talking about one pan? I used it today to make a sponge filled with cream and strawberried and it filled beautifully. I`ve used Silverwood pans before and am very happy with the quality. The cake looks stunning and I`m likely to think of different permutations with fillings etc but well done Lakeland- excellent product! Thank you ++

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

I purchased my tins a few weeks ago and have used them twice. Although I did grease them and line them, my cakes stuck, not that it stopped them from being eaten! Just read one of the reviews and will purchase 'cake release' and try again before I give up.

Great tin - try the blueberry surprise cake on this websiteby Sarah

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

I bought this set of tins and have used the flat bases - I greased the tins well and they turned out perfectly. I have just tried the blueberry surprise cake on this website and it's brilliant. I used the Lakeland grease proof paper circles to line the base, I have ended up with one slight wobble on the edge of my cake as I used a large circle and squashed it down - having seen the advice attached to the reviews here next time I will use a small one just for the centre of the base and I am sure it will be perfect. It's only a shame it can't be put in the dishwasher.

GREAT IDEA BUT A LITTLE DISAPPOINTEDby Christine

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

Bought and used these this week and although I used cake release (which I always do when baking) I found it difficult to get cake out of tin, they did stick. Would love these tins in Lakeland's own (My Kitchen) range which has fantastic non stick surface.

Worst Cake tin everby Joyce

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

My family love to bake and we saw this product and thought it would be a wonderful contribution to our collection of cake tins. What a mistake. The multiple cakes we have tried to bake using various recipes, lined, unlined, floured or greased without success. I have found my 99p cake tins from my local supermarket have given me better results. The only thing consistent about this product is its failure rate. I think in future I will stick to tried and trusted than waste my money. I do wish that you could only give half stars as this is all it warranted

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

Was a little concerned about purchasing these, due to other reviews, but as long as you grease them well, these tins are the best! Made a chocolate cake & filled it with fresh raspberries, cream & crushed meringue nests. Topped with melted chocolate & raspberries! OMG- Good job we're not on a diet!

Don't always let negative reviews cloud your decision to buyby Maggie

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

I am so pleased that I bought a set of these cake tins before I read the reviews because I doubt that I would have bought them if I had. I followed the advice of greasing and lining the insert and greasing the sides of the tins and had absolutely no trouble in releasing the cakes. As the tins are slightly bigger than my other cake tins I did make an 8oz mixture with 4 eggs and made a slight well in the centre. I am thrilled with the result and the top of the cake is nice and flat ready for decorating. I would definitely recommend this product. Lets hope the cake tastes as good as it looks!!!!

does what it says on the tinby SUSAN

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

having read some mixed reviews, i decided to give them a go. i greased well and put a circle of baking paper on the raised insert. unfortunally i forgot to take out the solid insert and the mixture ran and stuck. had a second go using only the raised insert and they came out lovely! the only downside i can say is that it takes a lot of buttercream to fill the middle. so next time im planning only using one raised base.

Disasterby Miss Lisamore

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

I recently purchased this product and was using it to make a birthday cake for my mum. I followed the recipe inside the tin and had to make 4 cakes to get just one to come out of the tin successfully. I was hugely disappointed as the cakes seemed unable to hold up their own weight. For the price I would expect the cakes not to turn out as a disaster.

A note from the team: Thanks for letting us know that you've had some difficulty. It may help to line the insert with a 6½" circle of greaseproof paper before greasing and buttering the rest of the pan to prevent sticking. This will also prevent the insert moving during baking.

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

I read the other reviews before buying this and was more than a little sceptical but was so excited to the idea I brought it anyway. I agree with lakelands advice you need to use the greaseproof paper and well grease the sides of the tins, but my cakes came out perfectly as soon as they came out of the oven. The cake certainly had the wow factor when I took it into work today!! Thanks Lakeland, Love it!!

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

I got these pans yesterday and was looking forward to using them today cakes did not stick they came out a dream but only problem one side did not rise to match the other which leaves the cake lop sided which is not great. I thought it was my oven so used one of my old cake tin and that came out fine so I tried again but the same happened. So disappointed with this.

A note from the team: Thanks for letting us know about this. The best way of preventing uneven baking is to level the mixture off with a flat spatula and then turning the cake in the oven in the last 5-10 minutes of cooking. We'll be in touch to help.

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

I like this pan and I have tried making couple of cakes, which turned out nice. I grease the pans so they don't stick, but my only problem is that the lid always lifts up, so there is not much space for the surprise in the middle and I have to dig it up. I am not sure whether I need to use less baking powder or what as there were no instructions or recipes in my package.

A note from the team: The insert should be placed in the bottom of your pan and lined with a 6½" circle of greaseproof paper before greasing and buttering the rest of the pan to prevent sticking. This will prevent the insert moving during baking. Thanks for your feedback.

Rubbish, stick to £8 tins from supermarketby Miss Peggs

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

Bought these tins as they were different. Well what a load of rubbish! They stuck to the mixture and even with cake release they wouldn't come out. What I was left with is broken, thin and lop sided cake. I will be taking my tins back and asking for a refund for £20 I expected far better results.

Cake Heavenby Wendy

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

I couldn't wait to try this tin as soon as i saw it in the catalogue, and made a special trip to my local Lakeland. I have to say I was not disappointed at all. I haven't stopped using it and not had a bad cake yet. I have friends asking for the cakes now, they love the surprise of the fillings. I am now in the process of trying different flavours for my cakes and complimentary fillings. I used the cake release and that really helps, so have used it for most other cakes in non-standard tins. The only thing i want to know is do they do this cake tin in other sizes?

Worked first time, greased with marg, put the tin on a can and gently pushed down to release - worked fine! Used a 4 egg sponge mix split between the 2 tin both with insert and it was perfect - no waste at all! Would have been 5 stars if it was non stick :)

Disappointedby Mrs Kay Burke

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

I recently purchased this item and at nearly £20.00 expected more to be honest. They looked the business. Used Cake Release (which is brilliant by the way) prepared all the areas carefully as I had read the review saying that the tins did stick. The "special" insert raised up during cooking and what I ended up with a broken mess of cake. Very very disappointed - my advice - stick to the sponge tins you may already have in your cupboard and use the £20 to keep you in Cake Release - much better spent - sorry Lakeland - I love your store - but this product is a flop!

Silverwood Victoria Surprise Cake Set

I am not an experiences baker of sponges so followed the instructions on the tins in terms of recipe and lining/greasing etc and these worked really well. Cake was yummy! Removed a star as they are difficult to clean (bits stick in the rim of the base) and the instructions aren't clear on whether 'cake' refers to one tin or two in terms of quantities but that just have been me! :)
