For those who are looking to control their portion size, here’s a neat silicone tool that measures out a healthy 75g portion of dry pasta. Cleverly, you can hang it over the pan for cooking then just lift up to drain, ready for serving. Also handy for cooking different veg in the same pan. Folds flat when not in use.

My friend bought one of these pasta baskets. She brought it to our slimming club and we all thought it was great. My friend weighs out her pasta which the basket is perfect for and cooks her husbands in the same pan. We wondered if you had a similar idea for a rice basket. I bought these items as I have one child who likes peas and the other sweetcorn. These are brilliant for cooking both in one pan with no complaints from the boys. I have a pan big enough to cope with the two I purchased and would probably do 3 at a push.

I like wholegrain pasta, he likes white pasta...so you can imagine how brilliant I thought these would be. Sadly as others have pointed out you will need a very large pan to fit more than one of these in (in fact you need quite a large pan anyway to hook just one basket on due to the curve in the basket) , and so you end up using rather a lot of water anyway, and would probably just be best using 2 pans/hob rings. I found the portion size just about right for us, but not sure I'll be digging out the extra large pan each time just to make separate pastas in one pot. It's a great concept but I think it needs some tweaking to become really practical and useful.
