Not so good now!”
As this was the first sharpener I had bought in many, many years I was expecting great things. At first it seemed perfect. But then I felt the blades were not as sharp as they should be and if they were, they did not stay sharp for long. Now the fine wheel has split in half, so its not good at all now. So I have replaced with the Swiss Knife Sharpener. QMG! Watch your fingers with thate little beauty. Now that is what I call a sharpener.

I am surprised to read some of the reviews on here. I purchased this to sharpen some very blunt knives which in the past I have only managed to get sharp on a wet stone. I bought this and WOW. They wouldn't chop an onion and now slice through meat, veg and tougher vegetables. Rate this 100% and can only assume people are not using it correctly in some way. I would say it is designed for right handed use though. Only criticism is the handle is about 2mm short of acting as a firm rest to the main base so it does not sit flat, and also that when you pull the knives back through it is easy to cut the plastic case at the end of each groove. Also tricky to do the tips, although not impossible. A wet stone is easier for the tips though. But I do now have sharp knives and have bought one for my father also.

This review is for an older version of this product
My husband brought this and we have been very pleased with the results. It's very easy to use and sharpens our knifes brilliantly. It's so good that we brought one for my Dad for Father's Day and he is equally impressed with the results.

Breath new life into old knives!”
by Mrs Wylam
We always struggled to keep our knives sharp with sharpening steels, with little or no success. Within minutes of starting to use the Anolon sharpener, new life had been given to even our bluntest knives, which were previously destined for the bin. The specially shaped wheels mean that anyone can use it, with the same degree of success. Now it keeps all our knives sharp and is an invaluable addition to our kitchen.

Brilliant - need spares!”
by Dr Noble
This knife sharpener works where nothing else has - but I've dropped one of the wheels. I don't want to buy a new sharpener, so please, Lakeland, can you stock the grinding wheels too?

Maybe there's blunt and then blunt”
I'm sorry, but I have to disagree with the reviews above, which is really disappointing because I bought this product on the back of the delighted comments. Now, it's true to say that my knives are very blunt. But it's also true to say that this product didn't have the first effect on any of them. A product which keeps knives sharp when they're OK already is not what I'm after and I'm genuinely sorry to say that I think that's all that this product does; hence the two stars rather than none. So, like other sharpeners I've tried recently, this one also is going back. I will persevere, because I genuinely believe that Lakeland's products are best...if you don't have a sharpener that works, I don't believe anyone has...but I have to admit to a real frustration with the whole range at the minute. Electronic version here I come, with fingers crossed. Maybe it's because I'm left handed?? (Not sarky comment - genuine query)

Keeps my knives like new”
by Mr Ed O'Brien
This knife sharpener takes the hard work out of sharpening my Lakeland Select Knives (Ref 13602-7). With just a quick brush with the knife after each use keeps them as good as they were when I first bought them. Love it Lakeland!

every kitchen should have one!”
I have always struggled to keep knives sharp but this clever device is absolutely wonderful. It's easy and safe to use and does exactly what it says it will do. I shall be recommending it to everyone I know.

This Actually Works”
by Dr Richard Dudley
A good sharp knife is the most essential piece of kitchen equipment in my opinion. Food preparation with a dull knife is just no fun. I've tried a number of sharpeners and I can only get a really good edge by using a proper whetstone. But that's messy and time-consuming, so I don't do it often enough. This little gadget is a godsend. There are three ceramic wheels of different coarseness. A coarse one for starting a very blunt knife. A middle one for a dull knife and the fine one for honing an already reasonably sharp edge. The combination of the shape of the ceramic wheels and the guiding channels means that you always have the corect angle between the blade and the ceramic stone. The key to a sharp knife is to use the fine wheel after each time you've used the knife and to apply almost no pressure. Odd, I know, but pressing hard givers poorer results that just a few gentle stokes. On a very good day (about every three months) I can get a better edge with a standalone whetstone. I can get a great edge with this every time. I leave it on the worktop, with water in the base, and give the knives a quick top-up each time I've used them. This is actually a product that works, unlike a lot of gadgets. Recommended.
