“Happy!!
”
by Andrea
I was put off buying this by some of the reviews left. However my sister bought one and had no problem so (four months later) I took the plunge. No problem at all..golden shortbread and it came out of the mould cleanly and with the pattern well defined. I used a hand mixer and when the 'breadcrumbs' appeared I put half of them into the mould and pressed them down firmly with the heel of my hand, then the other half and did the same. Doing half at a time means you get more pressure on the 'picture'. I ran a knife round the edge as soon as it left the oven, then left it to cool completely.

“ASTONISHED
”
by Mrs Rice-Naylor
Having bought this I then read the reviews and my heart sank. I was prepared for disaster! However the result was FANTASTIC. I washed the mould in hot soapy water drying thoroughly. Using an electric mixer I followed the recipe on the back of the box and this is when I thought it had gone wrong as the mixture resembled breadcrumbs rather than dough. I soldiered on, placed the mix in mould pressing down hard with a metal spoon. Baked for 45 mins, cooled for 30mins. Loosened the edge placed wire rack on top and inverted. A few taps on base and out popped shortbread with thistle design. Delicious

“Frustrated.
”
by Julie
I bought is last weekend and I could not wait to try it. I followed the recipe on the box, pressed the crumb like mixture into the mould - (which I had greased) and cooked for suggested time and temperature. with eager anticipation, I let it cool right down before trying to get it out. It was firmly stuck like stink to the mould, I used a sharp knife and a palette knife to try to tease it out - no luck - in the end I had to chip it out and bin it, as it was ruined. I was temped to bin the mould too in utter frustration at the loss of time and ingredients. Not sure I'll bother to try again.

A note from the team: Thanks for your review. Our buying team advise washing the mould in warm water and drying it prior to first use, and greasing it when using for the first time. The mould is unglazed and will absorb grease so will become easier to release with time. Please also allow 2.5 - 3 hours to cool before turning out. We'll contact you to help.
“Excellent product and recipe
”
by Mrs Paula Harris Allen
I followed the instructions exactly for the shortbread and it was perfect. I did hesitate about not oiling as before but not problem. In fact a I have another Lakeland shortbread mould used the same recipe no oiling and this came out perfectly too. Previously it had been a little soft and provided you really press down hard the pattern looks professional especially if dusted with caster sugar, I am really impressed.

“Very disappointing
”
by Victoria
My Dad bought me this mould for Christmas, together on New Years Eve we made some shortbread ready to bring in the new year. However, even after greasing the mould and dusting with sugar the shortbreard was stuck fast in the mould after baking. After prising the shortbread out of the mould we were left with nothing but mush, we were both very disappointed. We would appreciate any tricks others have found to make the shortbread slip out of the mould and still resemble its shape! I also had the same trouble with the Christmas shortbread moulds.

“Shortbread mould
”
by Caroline
As a professional cake maker with many years experience and a tutor/author, I enjoy making deserts. I purchased this mould as I liked the decorative thistle design and the portion grid. I was however extremely disappointed as the shortbread did not cook evenly, did not come out very easily and the thistle design was very poor. I shall ask for a refund and buy some wooden moulds from the USA.

“short bread mould
”
by Clare
I got this mould for Christmas as I wanted to make shortbread with a nice pattern on it. I was very excited and had a go at making some shortbread using this mould on boxing day as a treat for all my family. I follow the instructions exactly and was very disappointed with the outcome. The shortbread stuck to the mould and was extremely difficult to get out. Once I did get it out the pattern was barely visible. The outside was too crispy and the inside was not cooked enough even though the shortbread was the same thickness throughout. Over all very disappointed.

The shortbread had completely stuck on the first 2 occasions I have used this mould. Spoke to assistant at local Lakeland who told me that hers stuck the first 4 times but has got better! Offered money back but SO wanted this to work.

I followed the recipe on the box.The shortbread did not come out,so i just carefully cut around the edge and it came out out cleanly.I was very disappointed with the result of the thistle mould, you wouldn't know what design it was meant to be if you didn't already know.Think the imprint of design needs to be deeper.

A note from the team: Thanks for placing your review. The dough needs to be pressed into the thistle imprint firmly and the shortbread allowed to cool thoroughly before removal. I'll be in touch shortly to help.

Despite it's lovely appearance, sadly I was quite disappointed with this product. I followed the recipe to the letter, I pressed the dough well into the mould with the end of my rolling pin, but it was well and truly stuck. What did eventually come out was a beautiful colour and tasted lovely. Sue from Lakeland was helpful when I spoke to her. I am going to try again but will grease the base first. I'm hoping that the pattern will also be more clearly defined, fingers crossed!

“Very disappointing
”
by Judith
Bought this yesterday & couldn't wait to try it out. Hopes & dreams are in the bin along with under & over cooked shortbread pieces. Had I read the reviews I would have saved my time and money. Seriously don't bother. If you can get it evenly cooked, and then manage to get it out of the mould, I would seriously doubt you will have any semblance of a pattern.

A note from the team: Thanks for placing your review. Sorry for the disappointment, so I'll be in touch shortly to help.Handy Tips...The dough needs to be firmly pressed into the mould. It should be a toasty light brown when cooked. Be sure to let the shortbread cool in the pan before trying to remove.
“perfect
”
by Susanne
This mould arrived yesterday and I couldn't wait to try it out. I made some shortbread using a different recipe to the one on the box. After letting it go cold I cut around the edge with a sharp knife and turned it over. The shortbread came out easily although the pattern could have been a bit deeper, probably my fault for not pressing hard enough. It cut easily following the guidelines imprinted on the shortbread and tastes delicious.

“Sad over shortbread
”
by D
I have always loved making shortbread for my hubby and many people have commented how nice it has been, so I thought I would treat myself to this shortbread mould - looking at the picture loved the shape and the thistle was totally apt as my husbands family are Scottish. However, using my recipe my shortbread didn't cook as well, the first batch did not come out of the mould and I gave my husband a patch work of crumbs. My second batch, after a lot of teasing did come out but was horribly hard and rock solid. This has been the only product that I have been disappointed with from Lakeland.

“Disappointing
”
by LOUISE
The first time I used this I followed the recipe from the box which was far too sweet (as agreed by all 5 of us). It also stuck well in the middle. So I used a scottish shortbread recipe (Delia's) which is our family favourite but this over-cooked. Both times I found it difficult to get out. I will try again with the other reviewers suggestions but can honestly say this is the only product in the very long time (since they were LLtd!) that I have not been 100% happy with a product. It may have to go back!

“very disappointed with this
”
by Irene
I was so pleased to discover this product in store, but now, having used it for the first time, I feel badly let down. I abandoned my tried and trusted shortbread recipe and followed the one on the box, only to be left with a large broken shortbread round, with no pattern. Save your money and buy a traditional wooden mould!

I received my Shortbread Mould yesterday, so excited had to try it out straight away. As usual Lakeland, you didn't let me down. I just had to loosen the edges slightly with a knife and out popped a perfect, beautiful round of shortbread, complete with thistle pattern. Fantastic!
