Potato Ricer

I love this! It's so easy to use, guarantees excellent results, and is so easy to clean. I don't know how I ever managed without it!

Smooth Mashby Kirsty

Potato Ricer

I loved this ricer and always used it to get perfectly smooth mashed potato quickly. Unfortunately the top handle snapped halfway along the shaft during use, not sure why but perhaps it was weakened due to washing in a dishwasher (always did it in the top rack though)? Going to replace with the metal version, a must for perfect mash!

Potato Ricer

I've probably had my ricer for a couple of years, and would never go back to a conventional masher. However, last week, the handle (as it's made of plastic) snapped in half, therefore making it difficult to use. I bought another one from a departmental store, but it does not do the job as well because unlike this one, the metal plate does not lock down. I have just ordered the chef n potato ricer, hoping for the additional cost that it does the job as well, without the risk of the handle snapping

Great mash but not sturdy enoughby Mrs Gillett

3 stars out of 5

Potato Ricer

The concept of a ricer is a good one, and since I got this I now can't live without it. Unfortunately, being made of plastic the hinges broke after about 6 months of use (and we don't have mashed potatoes that often). Lakeland were great in replacing it, however my replacement has now broken in exactly the same place, leaving me to thing that it isn't strong enough. I don't use hard potatoes, and I only have small hands so it's not like I've forced it too hard to break - just perhaps a cheap option for a ricer which only has a limited life. I'll be buying a more sturdy one this time

Not as good as my 20yr old traditonal masher!by Mrs Murphy

Potato Ricer

Tried to get on with this but really couldn't - I ended up having to put potato through a few times before it was really mashed, then ended up reverting to my old potato masher. Needless to say I have taken it back.

I have had one of these for years. As far as getting it apart to clean, I recommend using a damp dishcloth to grip the inner tube and twist to remove it. From that point it easily comes apart.

Design Fault?by Gareth

1 stars out of 5

Potato Ricer

It might be an idea to ask the designers to fix the problem where potatoes/plums/whatever is being "riced" stick to the side of the plunger as it goes down. It feels as though every "scoop" needs to be done twice: once for the main plunge and twice to get the bits that got missed the first time. Unfortunately, as it takes twice as long to mash, the spuds are cold by the time they reach the table. Eugh!

Stuck!by Mr McConaghy

3 stars out of 5

Potato Ricer

I bought this ricer today and used it this evening. It was very easy to use and made lovely mashed potato. However, it is now totally impossible to remove the inner sleeve to clean it or change the disc - jammed solid after about 30 seconds use for enough potatoes for 2 people.

Hard to cleanby Mrs Scott

3 stars out of 5

Potato Ricer

Made lovely mash for the first few uses but the inner ring is now jammed in and I can't get it out to clean the ricer properly. It's a shame as even though it was long winded loading up enough potatoes to make mash for 6 people it was nice smooth mash when it worked and a lot easier for me as I'm disabled and struggle with a standard masher.

too wateryby diane

Potato Ricer

I was looking forward to this gadget but im afraid it does not cope with cooked potatoes very well. They have to be really really soft and then that means that they are watery. Im afraid I wont be using this again An ordinary masher is better.

You need muscles!by emma

Potato Ricer

I have really tried to love this product as the mash potato is wonderful, however, you really need to have a lot of strength to push the potatoes through. If you over cook them it works easily but the mash is watery. I'm now forced to write a review as the ricer snapped last night! Very disappointing.

I don't know if there has been a change to this product as I can't understand the bad reviews - I've had mine for years and LOVE it. In fact I used to buy one as everybody's housewarming presents :o)

Potato ricerby Mrs Gemma Harris

2 stars out of 5

Potato Ricer

Fantastic product at first but then found that I had to really over boil my potatoes so I could actually put them through the ricer, which often left the mash really watery. The product snapped when I tried to cook the potatoes to normal mash consistency and is now beyond repair.

I did a lot of research before buying this item what a disappointment. I have tried potatoes, vegatables even boiled eggs the only thing I have not tried is oranges. I'm better off getting the processor out. Will not be recommending this product to my friends.

Very disappointing productby Elizabeth

1 stars out of 5

Potato Ricer

I bought this product to make lump free mashed potato for my baby. Perhaps my ricer was a badly made one but the pusher is far too small and the potato merely squelched back up the sides and hardly anything went through the ricer blades. It made a big mess everywhere, the potato was by then cold and still lumpy and so I gave up. When I lifted the pusher out the blade was stuck to it and some of the potato just fell through into the bowl, unmashed. Unfortunately I shall be returning my product for a refund, and buying a better product elsewhere. Very disappointed. I am only giving this product a 1 star because I can't give less!

Great mash every timeby Ms aston

Potato Ricer

Gives fantastic results - you'll never have lumpy mash again. The only criticism I would have is that when you put the potatoes through the ricer, some potato does squeeze out the top (perhaps the "plunger" part is just slighly too small).

My favourite kitchen gaget! It's so easy to use (and clean) and makes the best mash ever. The only negative I can think of is, If your trying to down size your portions~You don't have a hope with creamy mash, you'll just want more!

No 1!by Catherine

Potato Ricer

I've had a potato ricer for a number of years now and my three children wouldn't go to university until I'd bought them one to take with them! A number of friends, relatives, neighbours and my children's fellow students have also been out and bought one after seeing the results of mine - what better advertising can you get?

Bought this item a while ago. It's a brilliant idea. But I used only once. It made a mess instead of mash:( Not even trying to use it again.

Best kitchen product you will ever buy!by Anthony

5 stars out of 5

Potato Ricer

I'm suprised at the rather negative comments here about the refilling and the washing. My potato ricer is easily the BEST piece of kitchen equipment I've EVER bought. Very simple to use and produces perfect results, as long as you've boiled your potatoes correctly first (the ricer cannot be held responsible for sloppy cooking!). If refilling it a few times is not for you, I suggest you stick to ready meals! The ricer is brilliant and is always in use in our house. I've only ever used it for spuds. Reading other reviews here, I shall have to give oranges and swede a try!
