Chris Perkins/ Simmer matby Christine Perkins

5 stars out of 5

Original SimmerMat

After buying a new cooker I had to be vigilent in watching anything I left to simmer on the stove, soups sauces etc because they would always 'catch' the bottom of the pan. I saw this in the catalogue and it was recommended by a store assistant, it is fantastic, once the soup has boiled, and the mat is hot, put the pan on the mat, turn the heat low and it will cook for as long as needed without catching, at last I can relax and not have to watch the pot.

Brilliant but warpedby Trudy

4 stars out of 5

Original SimmerMat

Like a few other people, I have found that this is a brilliant item, but it has warped on my gas hob. I had the heat diffuser before and it did rust so I am in a quandary what to do now, as I need this for my ceramic casserole. It would get 5 stars if it hadn't warped. Wow! What customer service! Within hours of writing my review I had someone on the phone offering me a replacement, which I have now received and it is working beautifully. Thank You lakeland...you should do courses in customer service for other retailers.

I swithered about buying one of these for a long time, but I'm so glad I did. What decided me was when my husband nearly burned my expensive Le Creuset pan when he was trying to reheat a casserole, and I thought better to spend £13 to save £100. Yesterday I left a casserole on in the same pan with the SimmerMat beneath and forgot about it. When I came back it was still simmering away and hadn't even stuck. What a joy! I am now ordering a second one so I can cook rice at the same time, and one for my sister who has just had to throw away a Le Creuset pan through having burned it beyond repair.

I recently bought this simmer mat and thought it was a great but unfortunately after a few uses it has warped. Was going to buy a second one but not sure now.

Amusingly when I came to write this review I couldn't remember what the item was called and scrolled through all the pots and pans section. Then it occurred I could use my previous purchases! You ought to blow your own trumpet more. What a useful item and saving me from the embarrassment of smells of burning veg from the kitchen. Thank you

Simmer Matby Debbie Beck

3 stars out of 5

Original SimmerMat

I bought this item some months ago as I have solid rings on my electric cooker which take a long time to cool down when needing to reduce a boil to a simmer. I used this item with great success until last night, the simmer mat started to make noises as if it was expanding/contracting and when I gingerly lifted the pan off the mat, the blue coating had cracked and deposited bits of blue coating onto the ring of the cooker. I turned if off immediately and put the mat on my draining board to cool and had to use a sharp knife to try and scrape off the bits of blue off the hotplate. The item is great and did exactly as promised, it's a shame I'm too scared of ruining my cooker to use it now.

I bought this recently as I've been finding my gas burners difficult to use when making things such as soup and sauces - as other reviewers have said, the burners are either too fierce and hot, or they concentrate the heat onto a small area of the pan. In addition, if I try to turn it down to a low enough heat the burners often go out. I have used the Simmermat twice today and there is no other word for it but excellent! I made soup this morning and kept it simmering till my friends arrived for lunch. Then this evening my husband was delayed at work and I put it under the curry we are going to have. I couldn't believe when I went to check on it 45 minutes later, it still looked very moist with plenty of sauce and no hint of drying out, even on a medium heat to make sure the burner didn't go out. It's also very handy to store and easy to wash (dishwasher safe, so when I finally get my dishwasher that will be great!). I'm really pleased and hope to get many years of use from this.

SimmerMatby Mrs Smith

5 stars out of 5

Original SimmerMat

I purchased this mat a few years ago and it has served its purpose well. At the time I thought it was rather expensive for what it was but when you know it works so well it is worth the money spent. I have copper bottom saucepans and can't tell you how much time I have spent over the years scrapping off burnt food from them! No more! It is great for cooking casseroles, chillis, spaghetti bolognese, etc, anything that needs a long cooking time. As my kitchen is on a different floor to the lounge I never have to worry about leaving food cooking as it just never burns, over cooks or sticks to the saucepan! Although mine has started to warp now I wonder if it is because I have let other members in the family use it and they have had the gas up too high! After cooking it is best to leave it on the stove to cool down before cleaning as it holds its heat well and I do not want anyone to burn their counter top as I did! My son is at uni and cooking for himself and he has a problem with food sticking to the bottom of the pan so I will be getting one for him. This would be a great gift for anyone setting up home.

I too have used this mat on my gas hob for several years and value it greatly. However it has warped and is no longer safe to use which is such a shame. So it looks like I'm going to have to buy another one, but not the same type in the hope that the new one won't warp. It would have had 5 stars but not now that its warped.

Has made my life easier!by Elizabeth

5 stars out of 5

Original SimmerMat

I'm a busy working mum and like to batch cook for the freezer but the recipes I use most for this tend to be sauces, casseroles, chilli, curries etc which need to simmer for a while. My smallest gas burner was still to hot for this and tended to concentrate the heat to the middle of my big pot causing a burnt spot, but this has made the world of difference! I can get on with other things and not worry about constantly going back to check/stir. I was a little concerned at some of the reviews on here before I used it but I haven't experienced any warping, marks to hob etc. Thrilled!

Good but has warpedby Mrs Brown

3 stars out of 5

Original SimmerMat

I bought this an have used it consistently on my gas hob - my only problem with it is that it has warped and so I have to spend time making sure my pan does not fall off. However, I accidently went out and left my ratatouille on the diffuser mat for over 4 hours and there was no burning at all so the way it works is brilliant - it is just a shame that it has gone a bit wonky!

Diffuses heat but stains hobby Marion

1 stars out of 5

This product worked OK to diffuse heat but after use, the white enamel hob was badly marked around the burner. It has not been possible to remove the marks completely. I wonder if the fact that we have an LPG hob is anything to do with this. Sadly, we won't be using this product again.

Great product, but...by Alexandra

4 stars out of 5

Original SimmerMat

An amazing product for our range cooker! The lowest heat setting was still too high for sauces and stews but the simmer mat just cuts the heat to the perfect level. Just one practical drawback; when you take the pan off the heat it is easy to forget that the gas is still on underneath. A heat spot (like the tefal pans?) or colour change would be a wonderful addition and a warning to prevent picking it up when hot!

When we moved house I found I couldn't get the hob as low as I had used to. A few nasty burnt pans ensued! This product has solved the problem and is also great for keeping pasta/rice on the boil but not over boiling. An economic solution to the problem.

great productby Jan

5 stars out of 5

Original SimmerMat

I am a kitchen gadget fanatic. I often buy items that I use once and then they lurk at the back of a cupboard. Not this one. I was considering buying a new hob because it was very tricky to get the right simmering heat on mine. I bought two simmer mats and they have never been out of use since. Great! They saved me the bother of the new hob and having it fitted. I would definitely recommend the simmer mat.

As we live in Spain, my daughter bought one of these from the shop in Bicester and brought it out for me. Unfortunately within a couple of uses it warped and the pans on it now tip to one side on the gas rings.

sad to read that someone else had the same experience that I did with this. It warped with only a very gentle heat, always with a pan on top. This was especially disappointing as the product was a present from my sister, who knew something of my on-going search for a proper, non-flimsy, can make caramelised apple tart on it diffuser. I suppose I have to keep looking. D

wonderful itemby MARIA

Original SimmerMat

I bought the simmer mat a few years ago and it is a wonderful, simple device. I use it mainly for making porridge. I just bring the porridge to the boil, reduce the gas to its lowest, place the mat on the gas and the pan on top. The porridge never burns or sticks and is cooked beautifully. I would definitely buy this again

Disappointingby JAMES HALL

1 stars out of 5

Original SimmerMat

Was excited about this product, but very dissapointed with it when it arrived. It has already wharped meaning it is impossible to rest a saucepan on it safely. I have only used it at the minimum heat on my smallest gas ring so do not think this should have happened. I won't be replacing it.
